Helder7 was looking at international patents a while back and predicted a color classpad. Turns out, he was right!

The fx-CP400, comes which a large touch-panel color liquid crystal display (LCD) for easy viewing and operability with the incredible resolution of 320×528. We really need a screen upgrade, the old classpad screen quality was not the best.

This calculator will competing with the Nspire CX CAS.

The new Classpad model will be available in various countries starting in early summer 2013 (i cant wait :P ).

Casio just published the announcement on its Asia Website a few hours ago, but it seems that the other sites do not have an announcement up yet.

Helder made a table comparing it to other calcs, shown below.

Apparently will be more powerful than the prizm... kind of obvious, since the classpad has always been casio's high-end calc.

I would guess around $150-$200, but idk.

Also, I love the classy look it has! Casio really did a good job on the external looks of both the prizm and this, imo.

    Casio ClassPad 300

Pretty cool. Finally this happened. B)

And here are some observations. :)
  • It's the first time ever that ClassPad is prefixed with 'fx' letters; which looks controversial since ClassPad really doesn't use the logic and design used in the fx series. ClassPad is essentially not an 'fx'.
  • It has CAS. Now Prizm is in danger!
  • It's slightly bigger than the original classpad by a few (half)millimeters, and 1.6cm taller.
  • The CPU must be more powerful since it needs to refresh more pixels.
  • The 320x528 dot LCD and native rotation support makes it IDEAL to develop e-book readers, pdf readers, run JAVA J2ME games on it, etc...
  • Don't get greedy, does a SDK ever comes out for this thing? From the time Saltire stopped collaborating with Casio, there hasn't been sdk's.
  • From the previous SDK I can tell the OS and Programs are all written in object-oriented C++. Syscalls are also entirely different. Nice job Hard time discovering them!
TL;DR Kill prizm!

OK, I'll answer one-by-one :D

  • You mean the font was not the same across all casio calcs before?
  • CAS's are not allowed in most tests. PRIZM has a chance.
  • Well, the PRIZM is big too.
  • My guess is that it is an SH4 processor, since that's what the prizm uses, as well as CP330+ and fx power graphic 2 models.
  • PRIZM didn't come with an SDK either, yet there has been quite a bit of addin development for it. Also, cfxm stated in another post that he would make an SDK for this new classpad.
  • Hard, but not impossible. ;)

TL;DR PRIZM and Classpad can live nicely side-by-side.

I'll answer one by one too:
  • The issue is not just the font; I believe the font was a standard 5x7 font used in many places. The programs and the logic behind them, the abilities of each one, and more importantly the OS are completely different. ClassPad uses an enhanced OS of PVs-1600 digital assistant, which includes C++ with classes and inheritance and stuff, at least in the UI part; while the fx'es (including Prizm) use a custom OS. The SDK also uses a linker that seems is customized by the former Hitachi for CASIO.
  • OK, Ok, my thinking was limited to universites and the like
  • I didn't mean it's big; actually it's the perfect size. There was a screenshot comparing CP to nSpire in size somewhere that clearly showed that.
  • You missed this dot in your answer !
  • ok
  • see below
The memory advertised is still 500 KB MCS and 5.5 MB Flash memory. Chances are, the format for saving variables hasn't changed; and we have already discovered it; this can be a big step.

IMO for the ClassPad sdk one has to make an entire new set of libraries for operating the device and rewrite many things, since we'll not be able to discover many of the syscalls.

Quick side note: did older Classpads have a tap-to-rotate screen feature?

no.

Casio replaced the old screen capture button 'H-Copy' with the rotate button.

In europe/asia this calculator will be launched in summer 2013.
There are not however any official announcement that is available in the U.S.
