Hi, I'm  new to the forum and to scientific calculators. I was given an fx-7400G Plus calculator as a present and I note it has no M+, CM or RM button. Can anyone tell me what keys to use instead of these, please?

M+, CM, RM are usually included in pocket calculators.

They are used to store values in memory, the scientific calculators have a much better way of doing this instead of using M+, CM or RM.

You can use the "->" button.

Example:

5 -> A

Doing the above in the fx-7400G PLUS in the math program will create a "variable" called 'A' that will be equal to 5.

This allows you to do things like:

5+A+5

Which will give us the number 15 because A=5, so the equation expands to 5+5+5 which equals 15.

You can only use the letters as variables, A-Z in the fx-7400G PLUS. To type in a letter in the calculator just press Alpha and then press the letter you want to type in.

Also the -> symbol is right above the "AC/on" button.

Thanks very much for your reply, Viliami. If I wanted to do, say, 30 separate calculations, noting down the answer to each one separately, and then to find the overall total, how would I do that? If I were using a simple pocket calculator I'd just use the M+ and RM buttons, but I still can't see how I could do that very easily with my fx-7400G Plus.

Simple pocket calculators can't note down the answer to each one separately.

But if you were using the Graphic Calculators, and you want to add everything, just keep typing after each equation and "Ans" will appear on the screen. Ans is short for Answer and it is equal to the total result of the answer to the equation before it.

I don't know how you can store each one separately if there are 30, because you can store only 26 variables in fx-7400G Plus, but you can store each one individually if you don't have more than 26.

e.g:

4+2->A

5*5->B

A+(B*23)->C

C+B+A->D

D*3->E

.....

Which isn't what I consider "very easily", but it's the only way I know atm.

Thanks again for your reply Viliami. I've been playing around with the calculator and think I've found the answer (in case anyone else is interested). If you use the "Stat" function you can use the List and enter the result of each calculation in a separate cell. You then press the > button and then  "Calc". Finally press "1 Var" and this produces a list of statistical results, one of which is the overall total.
