Hi! My first post here.

I have an issue with my recently acquired FX-4000p. It is in very nice shape, and everything seems to work well in Comp, SD, and LR modes, but not in Base-n mode.

When I enter a number (say 37) in decimal and subsequently switch to octal or binary view I get the expected 45 and 00100101, but hex view messes thing up -- I only get a row of eleven zeros. Switching back to dec, bin, or oct returns the proper number again.

After trying a little more in hex display it seems to me now that those zeros are leading zeros to the actual value, and that the 5 least significant numbers are not shown. So if I enter ABCDEFAB and press <EXE>, the display will show 00000000ABC. I cannot shift the display left or right, and calculations with the number shown give unusable results. Again, in dec, bin, oct everything works fine.

Is this a known bug or is the calculator simply defective? I haven't found anything mentioning this issue on line (yet).

Jeroen

@JeroenJ
If the maximum binary number in the calculator, for example, is 2^12-1 (b1111 1111 1111), then the hexadecimal number can not be greater than d4095. You may not enter hABCDEFAB.

Good point! However, inputting such an unpermitted large number appears to be the only way I can get anything other than "00000000000" to appear on the display when working in hex.

Another example:

in hex, I enter FFFFF <EXE> (or anything lower than FFFFF)

display shows 00000000000

next, I enter 100000 <EXE>

display shows 00000000001

next, I enter 200000 <EXE>

display shows 00000000002

Download user guide a see the page 43 and 44 on the document, not in pdf viewer

https://casio.ledudu...els/fx4000p.pdf

It seems you need to press "block" button + number of the block

Thanks! I had already tried that, but it didn't help. The impression I get from the manual is that the block button is used for binary display only. Plus, the 'many zeros' problem does not occur in either decimal or octal display.

(edit: some typos)

Well, You are right, it seems it is for binary display only.

Hi

I had the exact same problem.

The only way I found to get it back to displaying the least significant HEX digits was to press the little reset button on the back.

No idea how it got into this dumb mode or how to properly correct it but the good 'ol hard reset button worked for me!
