    ClassPad 300/CFX9850GB+

Posted 29 July 2005 - 08:52 AM

Ladies and Germs

I have recently purchased a ClassPad 300 and have run into the same issues and
problems that have been facing other intrepid ClassPad users back in March. Refer post/thread -> Somone Help Me, Please!, Can't install Add-ins to my class pad!

When installing the ClassPad Manager version on the CD provided with the ClassPad I get an error "Installation failed!", however the install wiz completes and event manager reports it as a successful install. The CPM runs and looks ok.

Upon connecting the USB cable to the ClassPad I get the CSG502 "revolving door/hardware install" problem as previously described. I have attempted all fixes suggested with no luck.

I contacted Casio Support in Sydney and found the only person that even knew what a ClassPad was was away on holiday.... (living in the 2.5th world is tough sometimes when you need support).

I have also found that the 30 day trial of v2.0 of ClassPad manager is not downloading from ClassPad.net (this being the case for days now).

Does anyone have any suggestions (please please :-)) as to a fix, or a copy of the v2.0 30 day trial that I can try? My guess is that Casio has released a stack of ClassPads with dodgy software, and being stuck at the end of the planet I have purchased (very) old stock.

Any assistance would be greatly apprieciated.

Cheers

Darryl

The ClassPad uses the same USB driver as the Pocket Viewer. Here is a download for the Pocket Viewer USB drivers. maybe this will solve your problem.

NOTE: This isn't an official CASIO installer. I've repackaged the files you'll need into an independent installer.

http://www.cpsdk.com...VUSBInstall.exe

The steps you should take are...
  • Make sure the ClassPad is not plugged into the USB port
  • Run the installer
  • After the install is complete then plug the ClassPad into a USB port. You should plug it into a different USB port to force your computer to re-recognize it and reinitialize the drivers.
Good luck! let me know how it works.

Many thanks for your suggestions and help SoftCalc. Unfortunately nothing worked, however I have discovered the following:

- the driver (i.e. CESG502.sys) do not look like it is the issue.
- the installation (via cesg502.inf using csg502.sys) works on a Windows 2000 Pro OS, but not on my XP PC.
- the issue looks like it is connected with the cesg502.inf file provided as it does not
update the windows registry on XP with a key for the driver.

I have contacted Casio Support here in Australia but have not received any help, in fact they have not returned calls as promised, and I have only been able to speak with peolple who work in Sales. So my reading of this is that there is no support available. :profanity:

I will be making one last ditch attempt tomorrow to see if I can raise some help from Casio, after that this little duck will be returning the ClassPad to the store.

Perhaps I need to look at the TI equivalent......

Once again thanks for your interest and help...

Darryl

The drivers work on Windows XP. I've installed them on XP Home, XP Professional, and even XP Media Center Edition (my computer at home :) )

Don't get too discouraged. I'll see if I can't help you out. Here is one more thing to try.

First, make sure you are logged on as someone with administrative privileges.

Next, check to see if there is anything in Add/Remove Programs for the PV or CP USB Drivers. There shouldn't be, but just in case check and if there is then uninstall it.

Next, go you your C:\WINDOWS\inf directory and delete the following files.
  • C:\WINDOWS\inf\CESG502.INF
  • C:\WINDOWS\inf\CESG502.PNF
Note that you'll have to have the following folder options in the VIEW tab set...
  • Show Hidden Files and Folders" - ON
  • Hide Extensions of Unknown Type - OFF
  • Hide Protected Operating System Files - OFF
The file with the PNF extension is a Precompiled Setup Information file. Whenever Windows displays the message "Gathering Hardware Information" it is really creating these files so the hardware wizard will run faster the next time. I'm hoping that deleting this file will force things to work.

Now make sure the ClassPad is not connected to the PC and run the PVUSBInstall.exe again.

Finally, when it is finished, plug the ClassPad into your computer again. To take any variables out of the picture make sure you plug the USB cable directly into a USB port on your computer. Do not use a USB hub. NOTE: The ClassPad should work with a USB hub but I've seen a lot of problems relating to USB connections that are ultimately a problem with a bad hub. Just to be sure, don't use one.

If possible, plug it directly into a USB port that the ClassPad hasn't ben plugged into yet.

Now (this is important) Windows should display the "Found New Hardware" dialog. Let me know if it doesn't. If it doesn't, let me know what it does do. Select all the default options.

Let me know exacly what happens and maybe I can figure out a solution.

BTW, I just updated the installer http://www.cpsdk.com...VUSBInstall.exe. There is just a really small difference with the old one, but it's worth trying.

Let me know how things work out.

Hmmmm...

A sophisticated machine with a lot of potential...

A manufacturing company that seems not to know that machine exists, or provides sketchy support at best...

An active and helpful user base...

All of this reminds me of my Royal daVinci.

Problem Solved!

Many thanks for your excellent help Softcalc. I purchased a copy of ClassPad Manager, installed this and then all was well in "ClassPad City". Yhe INF file with the latest version of CPM was different from the previous and the driver was also more recent. I havent looked at your PVUSB installer but suspect it will reflect the same changes.

Once again, many thanks, and the drinks are me when im in town next :-)

Cheers

You must not click on Link->Receive, but on Link->Install->Add-In. Then, just select Add-In App. and click OK.
