Dr. Coyote

As Softcalc said lets wait for another month or so. I am speculating because the existence of the basic and professional Manager, and I come to such conclusion.

Of course I hope I am wrong.

I think current owner of ClassPad cannot upgrade from OS 2.2 to 3 for free. You would be required to purchase the single user license for the upgrade.

If this is true, I will never pay a single euro for an OS upgrade which must be available for free for all ClassPad owners. Instead, I will probably search for another calc, with real customer support. However, I hope that you are wrong.

Let's just wait and see. Maybe it will be free, maybe not.

I think that Casio will not make such a huge mistake: the new OS will be probably available for free, together with a limited version of CP Manager. The full version of CP Manager is, of course, another story.

Guys,

First of all to pay or not was just my speculation. My friend is selling Casio products, and there are 2 versions of ClassPad Manager, Basic and Professional. They are the same function wise and both can upgrade the OS of your ClassPad 300. My friend's company is selling at about $60 for the professional version. The basic version is about half of that.

My rational is because when I installed my single license I found that you can upgrade the CP 300 OS from there too, and since Casio has not released any news, at least I cannot find any, about the OS of current owner of CP 300, I deduce that may be CP 300 user will need to buy the Manager to upgrade the OS.

However, the CP 300 and the CP Manager are 2 different products, so Casio is charging for 2 different products, which is fair as a company. As for the issue of free upgrade or not, that we will need to wait.

Again as I have said, my deduction could be wrong.

There are real additional functions and improvement in the OS, for example, some of vanhoa trick problems, I have tried them on my CP 300 and the OS 3 handle them easily and in a pretty quick time.

I also notice that Casio did listen to many suggestions raised in this forum, although they never address it openly here or anywhere. If you have the OS 3 you can check and see that many such weaknesses exposed here are rectify.

Read this (Casio reply my e-mail):

Dear Customer,

Thank you for sending your e-mail on ClassPad 300.
Please be advised as follows.

1. Why the os 2.20 remove the education group from the menu?

At first our R&D assumed that such applications software
as PIM and Game will be added. So they prepared "educational group".

But later they thought "educational applications software" would be
added into ROM and others will be added as add-in software. That's why they
omitted it and classified by "All and Additional".

2. When will the OS 3.0 come?

You need to purchase "ClassPad Manager for ClassPad 300 Ver3.0" which
bundles the OS V3.0.But it's up to our distributor whether they sell it
or not in Viet Nam.
Please kindly contact them to know if they are selling or going to
handle it.

3.CP Basic can have a OnError command?
No, it can't. Sorry.

4. Can it solve non-linear equation?
Yes,it can.But it depends on formulas.

Hi.
Yes, it was so strange cause seldom does Casio reply to someone.. I just hope in version 3.0, ClassPad can perform some calculation faster, and especially the user interface of "Statistic" built-in application. Finding statistical variable in version 2.20 takes much time.

Right now OS 3.0 is released and only available with purchase of ClassPad Manager 3.0. :

If you buy a new ClassPad handheld it will still be OS 2.2, not OS 3.0. As far as I can tell, the only way to get OS 3.0 is by buying the ClassPad Manager 3.0.

I don't know if the handheld will eventually be changed to OS 3.0, but right now it is still OS 2.2.

I don't know if OS 3.0 will eventually be available as a free download, Right not it is released but you must buy ClassPad Manager 3.0. It is not available as a free download.

This is insane! :profanity: Does Microsoft charge for an update to Windows XP Service Pack 2? NO! I have a ClassPad and the screen is hard to read. Casio came out with the ClassPad Plus. They fixed a hardware problem that many user complained about. I'd like to have the ClassPad Plus but it's hardware, so I don't expect Casio to give me a free upgrade.

I have OS 2.0 and it has problems. I've read in the forum how OS 3.0 fixes a bunch of them, but now Casio expects me to pay for their fixes!! I already paid for my ClassPad Casio. I shouldn't have to pay for you to make it right.

What about someone who just buys a ClassPad. If I just bought one and found out there Casio has a newer OS that I have to pay for I would return the ClassPad and buy a TI. Honestly, have you ever heard of a company that sells hardware with old software and charges you to get the newer software. :nonono:

Now lets look at TI. TI keeps developing and improving their software, and they give you the improvements for FREE. ANy time they have fixed or improved their OS it is a free download. Even more, the TI-89 comes preloaded with 16 extra applications, like EE*Pro. Does Casio give you an engineering application for free? It looks like TI is giving you the "Unexpected Extra" and Casio is unexpectedly charging you extra.

Everyone that reads this should email Casio and complain. Call or email your local Casio representative. I'll get things started. Here is a good person to contact in the USA. Anyone in the USA or Canada should call or FAX this guy.

SHAME ON YOU, CASIO! :profanity:  :banghead:
I won't buy OS 3.0, and I don't need the Manager (a limited edition, able to transfer files to and from the PC is enough). I don't care how much it costs, I won't pay for it even if it costs a euro, because it is ridiculous to sell an OS upgrade to a CP owner.
Unfortunately, after all these hours I have spent to develop LNA, I can't quit using ClassPad, otherwise I could buy a TI and sell my CP to eBay.
I hope that Casio will see this big mistake and release OS 3.0 for free soon. Until then, I suggest everyone who thinks about buying a CAS calc to forget ClassPad and buy something else - anything else.

Try <{GNULINUX}>! It has much less hardware requirements, it's rock-stable, and you pay nothing for it, unless you want to buy a commercial distribution (but, even then, you will pay $60-$80 for a complete software collection, not just for the OS).

NOW WE HAVE A CA$IO CLA$$PAD 300 PLU$.

Maybe you are right, from now on we should write "Cla$$pad" instead of "Classpad".

I've already said what I think everyone should do. http://www.casiocalc...c...ost&p=36207

Complaining here does nothing. Complain to Casio. This is the only change we have of getting OS 3.0 released for free. If enough people complain they will have to do something about it.
  • Phone you our local Casio office.
  • If you can't find it, call your local Casio distributor.
    http://www.casio-int...utors/calc.html
  • Email Casio support
    https://inquiry.casi...rm_I_en_f1.html
  • Even better, contact Casio repair and tell them your ClassPad must be defective because you just bought it and it has an old operating system. You are sure it must be a mistake because nobody in their right mind would make new calculators with an old OS. :nonono: Let's try to see them explain that one!
  • Better yet, do all of the above.
I don't want to hear a single complaint from anyone on this forum if they don't also have the nuggets to do something about it!

Well, I don't agree with that crude language: you don't need "nuggets" to do something about it. But I understand, you are angry, like every CP owner.

Micro pro, really you think that we can code a new CAS (as Mathematica, wow!) on the classpad. Here are some excellent programmers, but.. this is a BIG deal. Supossed that we are capable.. What time?. is a loong project. casio surely would release O.S 4.0 before us :D .

Surely, i would pay for the O.S.. ok, i know, i'm a traitor. but in my country, a new CP 300+ with an O.S 3, is cheaper than a TI89 Titanium, or a Voyage. then? changing to another brand isn't a solution for me (and i have some projects with the CP now  )

People, this is a very very personal opinion. Casio calcs saved my ass a lot of times, they are the image of reliability. When i can't bought an HP49G+, I bought an AFX, and i love the calc. in fact, here (Venezuela) at year 2005, one AFX + one CP300 =One TI Voyage 200 in prize!!!!. then ,i have no problem to pay 30$ more. True, thats not correct and it's unfair, shame on casio and soon. but, I've waited for an OS, and i want an OS.

PS: Nothing on p2p's?.. i've seen nothing on Ares, Limewire

Thats true!!! But how much will it cost for us? Lets wait until an official answer of Casio to see if the new OS will be the biggest scandal in the history of the classpad 300 ( jaja Filip's D?j? vu?)

Micro pro, really you think that we can code a new CAS (as Mathematica, wow!) on the classpad. Here are some excellent programmers, but.. this is a BIG deal. Supossed that we are capable.. What time?. is a loong project. casio surely would release O.S 4.0 before us :D .

New CAS is not as difficult as you think, you must know. The main problem is natural textbox. I have source of TI 92 CAS (I dont know exactly, just hask the emulator :P ), it isnt very difficult, so i'm building an addin like the main...

Dear Vanhoa! IT ISN'T DIFFICULT AT ALL!

ClassPad has a natural input-box, we can use it as long as we don't want to add new natural input things (Such as the laplace's special 'L').

But I agree that the CAS is not difficult. We should just write some code for usual operators such as '+' and '!' and the operator precedence, and the rest of the work is writing the code for functions such as sin, cos, etc.

BTW Please forget about Mathematica  It's not really important, I wrote that post for no particular reason, I think I was just thinking out loud...
We are in this topic to speak about OS 3.

Anyone out there has any further info on the release OS3.0 for handheld classpad 300, will there be still a charge still applies, it there an advance copy?

The main reason for this inquiry is that end of year exam is about 5 weeks away, there is one feature, differential eqtn which may prove useful in exam.

Use LNA's functions for solving differential equations. This needs some programming in CPLua, but it works very well - there are also several examples to start.
I don't have OS 3.0 (and I will not buy it), but I don't think that built-in differential equation solver in OS 3.0 is better than LNA's. Furthermore, LNA can also solve complex boundary-value problems, and I bet that such a thing is impossible in OS 3.0 .

I totally agree. Writing a CAS just to "beat Casio" is foolish. A CAS is a very complicated program, and needs advanced Mathematics, heavy programming, and a lot of time. Everyone who thinks that he can do it easily doesn't have any idea on what a CAS is. There are several PC CAS (such as Axiom, Maxima, yacas) which are free of charge. Their developers have spent several years on these projects, and none of them is finished yet. Try to write Mathematica, if you wish; it will be funny to see you releasing a very poor first version after some years :plol:.

Yes, you are a traitor! Shame on you!
The price doesn't really matter. What is important is that they sell an OS upgrade.
Btw, you will pay for a new OS, although you don't really know if the new CAS is powerful?

The only thing I can say is that I think that Casio will finally release OS 3.0 for free. (This is only my opinion, not detailed knowledge on the subject). If they don't, this will surely upset many of their customers (as seen in this forum ;) )and they don't seem to be in a position to let this happen.

Maybe the Classpad Manager OS 3.0 is just a way to get more revenue from the people who are willing to pay to have their copy earlier. Or could it just be an experiment to see how the consumer will react.

Anyway. Let's just hope that OS 3.0 will be free.

If not, then shame on Casio.

Oh yea... i will code a CAS.. ahem.. ok. i will use CAS ++ (a fictious language :roflol: ):
If var==x then
int(x)=(x^2)/2
ddx=1
end
People, be serious. a CAS is'nt a kids joke. is a serious programming challenge :plol: .
remember.. if you sweat to do a job, you will sweat twice trying to program the PC, to do the same job

I'm a traitor, i knooow :( I'm quite curious for the O.S 3.. it's natural :D. If the CAS is "pro".. i would pay for the silly OS. Matrix algebra doesnt matter.. we have LNA! :P

Once I wrote a very simple math program which parsed a math term, and solved it and had some simple funcs. The body of the program is not difficult, but the functions are difficult I guess.

And Mathematica was really a joke! Please forget it...
