Hello everyone. :)

Ftune/Ftune2/Ptune2 is updated version 1.01
Due to the latest software update, following changes are made.
As for this update, there is no change functionally.

--To solve problems in memtest failure. (Ftune2/Ptune2)
If the tolerance of the PLL circuit is bad, when PLL frequency is high (more than 800MHz) it becomes half frequency.
and the memory limit detection is not possible.
in Ftune2 (RAM read test at wait3)
in Ptune2 (RAM read test at wait4)
It was settled by raising it by one step.

--memory red zone ( dangerous range) 3% -> 5% (Ptune2)

--default I/O frequency MAX 30MHz -> 24MHz. and default preset I/O frequency is adjusted. (Ptune2)
Because there seemed to be the risk in the 30MHz neighborhood in the case of SPANSION 100ns flash, I changed default setting.
I recommend use by the I/O frequency that is near to default frequency.

--renewed some source codes. as a result, file size decreased. (Ftune/Ftune2/Ptune2)

I'm sorry,if some trouble happens by having used the former version.

If you encountered any problems during the using add-in,please report them.

Thanks very much.

Ftune2 (for SH4A FX)

Ptune2 (for Prizm)

Hi sentaro21

I've used Ftune2 version 1.00b. My fx-9860GII looks fast enough and I did not encounter the problem (Maximum limit CPU frequency is 292MHz). I upgraded to version 1.01 and there's no problem.

Thank you Sentaro21! I have used v1.01 and have no problem. Ftune2 made one of my programs runs 4.5x faster, even faster than the same program on overclocked Nspire CX CAS!

I am now looking for a compact portable USB power supply so that the 9860 will always run at the top speed with Ftune2. Thanks again!

Hi! factor

I'm grad for your programs works well with Ftune2. :D
As a result of having become faster than Nspire CX CAS, it is great!!

I do not still have an idea to make fast only with Ftune2 to become fast with USB.
The portable USB power supply is a good idea. :)

Thanks!!

Some interesting findings!

On running the benchmark n-queens problem, a strange result was found where setting the CPU clock higher will make the program runs slower:

Case A: 235.93 MHz, running time is 16 seconds

Case B: 265.42 MHz, running time is 23 seconds

For Case A (finish quicker), the setting is the default F5 setting, which is

PLL:X32       471.86MHz

IFC:1/2 CPU   235.93MHz

SFC:1/4 RoR 8 117.96MHz

BFC:1/4 RaR 5 117.96MHz

PFC:/16 Raw 2  29.49MHz

For Case B (finish slower), it is set faster over F5 as below

PLL:X36       530.84MHz

IFC:1/2 CPU   265.42MHz

SFC:1/4 RoR 8 132.71MHz

BFC:1/4 RaR 5 132.71MHz

PFC:/32 Raw 2  16.59MHz

Comparing the two settings, only PFC is decreased in Case B, so does that mean PFC affects overall performance even the CPU runs almost 60MHz faster?

Hi! factor :)

The I/O performance is affected by PFC

Please compare them with USB.

It will not become slow.

As for this, PFC is related to speed up with USB.

I think there is a considerably big overhead of the USB monitoring in fx-9860GII of SH4A.

You should raise PFC as much possible to get a good overall performance.
but in the case of fx-9860GII, should control it to around 33-35MHz to evade danger of the flash memory access.

Hey Sentaro, is this project yours?

It looks well done and I like using it. Thanks for your work! :)

Are you still working on projects except this one?

Hi Santaro!

Thank you for your reply! Yes you are right, with USB it is fast. The degrade with lower PFC only happens when USB is disconnected. For reference the comparison is here.

It seems very mysterious! Are the code to detect USB really take up so many computer cycles?? Most of the time it will not be connected to USB so it seems strange.. I am very eager to know the truth  ^_^

Thanks again, Santaro, for a great tool for us!

Hi factor!

Thanks for very useful comparison! :)

It seems very mysterious! Are the code to detect USB really take up so many computer cycles?? Most of the time it will not be connected to USB so it seems strange.. I am very eager to know the truth  ^_^

There is no speed difference (NoUSB/withUSB) in Prizm fx-CG10/20.
The first model fx-9860G(SH3), there is no speed difference too.
The speed difference appeared than fx-9860GII(SH3 added backlight).
There is around 10% of speed difference (NoUSB/withUSB).
This speed difference appears in the backlight ON/OFF too.
however like SH4A model when USB connected there is no speed difference.

fx-9860GII in SH4A has too big wait in ROM access.
It was 2 wait in SH3 model, but increased to 18 wait in SH4A model.
Similarly, I think that it is not mysterious even if I/O access includes big wait insertion.

Because it must not become faster than Prizm, I think that it is slowed intentionally.

I want to exclude this wait by software, but unfortunately the method is not yet found... :(

Thanks for the detailed explanation Santaro! It makes a lot of sense now.

Whether the "ultimate" wait-removal is found or not, Ftune/Ftune2/Ptune2 is excellent and I'll recommend it to all fx9860 owners :)

Hi sentaro21 and everyone

I've used Ftune2 on my fx-9860GII (SH4A) since ver 1.00a. My calc is still working well. I believe its protection setup by Shift MENU helps so much not to damage calc.

Once I found settings for maximum speed and found one step lower seep settings, then saved setting no to get the fastest setting and to get the 2nd fastest speed using the protection setup feature.

Probably all you knows this, but let me say it's very important and special feature of Ftune2.

Thanks again sentaro21.

Hi Krtyski,

Thank you very much for practicing the most suitable usage. :D

Ftune2/Ptune2 was the first policy that anybody can use without freezing.
As a result of having done various safety measures,
despite a dangerous tool,
There is very little danger of that freezing. :)

Confirmed the USB power does make a difference in speed. Using a USB power bank for testing, which provided 5V output and no PC connectivity, the performance boost is increased.

With USB power - 46 seconds

Without USB power - 93 seconds

The detail of the test is here. Thanks Santaro!

Hi! factor!

Thank you very much for confirming. :D

Connecting USB is very effective for the Basic performance. ( not add-ins )

The USB power is supplied to only the CPU&Memory, but is not supplied to the backlight.

It is considerably strange specifications,

but I think that it is very interesting personality. ^_^
