lo all.
I'm wondering if the classpad is a symbolic calculator since such calculators are not allowed at most universities in Norway.

Would you say the classpad is suiteable for education at university up to an MA in physics or mathmatics?

Can someone explain exactly what makes a calculator symbolic?

Thanks for any help.

well, it has a built in CAS so yeah it can do symbolic calculatons... :(

What if I just use the 9850 for exams and the classpad for all other stuff. Is it suitable for high level university maths and physics, or is it more high school / early college suited?

you could do that, and while it is a bit under-developed at the moment it is very powerfull... you should find it very effective as it is unless you are doing engeneering, in which case you may want to hold off on a CP.

I'm a tad green on this stuff... What do you mean by engineering? I am most likely to be doing physics (quantum and plasmaphysics primarily) and maths relevant to this up to MA level (5 years university).

Some people here say that engineering is alot of matrix stuff, but noone knows what that is

And yet another question pops up :)

How good is the touchscreen to work with? I think it looks like it's kinda weird to have to tap on the screen to for example get log 13 or some simple function. On a normal calc you could use one hand quite effectively, while here you have to use the stylus as well.

How do you think the classpad is to work with during normal studying?

it takes some getting used to, but it is much more effective at displaying answers and even inputting, it just takes some practice :D

for instance on the classpad you could do the following:

([]= harware key, ()=software key)
[keyBoard]+(2d)+(log) and

Log   []
     []

appears on the screen. and you can input the values.

Guess it's something i could get used to. I'm really wondering if I should buy a FX2.0, a TI-84 silver ed or a CP. The problem with the CP is that I will most likely not be able to use it on my exams :( .

There is one thing I havent asked yet (forgot about it). How fast is the CP? Is it as fast as the 9850GB PLUS, or is it in the league of the TI-84 silver ed? Primarily it's the graph function which is most important (also the g-solv for the graph).

Thanks for all your help. It is not easy finding info about these things...

LOL, the CP blows the CFX (and AFX) out of the water, graphing (including 3D graphing) is pretty much instant. its more comparable to the TI Voyage.

The ClassPad is definately has the kind of symbolic manipulation capabilities that will disqualify it for your university's use.

The ClassPad is very fast. One thing I've never had complaints about is the speed.

Using the touch screen is awkward. Some tell me I'll get used to it with practice, but I have used it for months and it is still very awkward. The few advantages the touch screen would offer over a well laid-out keyboard are offset by the poor implimentation of the user interface. I can work far faster on my HP 49G, and I consider the 49G's keyboard to be fairly bad. (The layout is pretty good, but the touch and feedback are terrible.)
