My dear friends, I think that simply it is just enough of Dr. Harrison and Dr. Coyote! Now you can have a look at one of the weird vital components of ClassPad SDK:

Pocket Viewer - Application Header Addition Tools, 0.4 Version, Programmed By M. Yanagisawa; exact below:

Pocket Viewer - Application Name Setting Tool Version 0.1, Programmed by M. Yanagisawa; and at the end...

Microsoft File Compression Utility, Version 2, Copyright Microsoft Corporation, 1990-1992. All rights reserved!

I can imagine the Japanese man typing those modules for the new brand of Pocket Viewer on the new 80386 running the brand new Windows 3.11! I cannot figure out when will ClassPad escape from ye olde PV design which started with the *.pva files in the ClassPad OS!?

TIP: When uploading an add-in to the ClassPad, never click the Connect button! It is enough only to start the standby state on the ClassPad! The connection CP=PC will be established automatically when you choose the add-in that is to be installed! You can see that there is no point for one more step: in both situations only one add-in can be received per one connection! Try it out!

P.S. Even if you have not put your ClassPad into stand by state, do not worry! The Add-in application installer will wait for several seconds! Act quickly to succeed it!

My dear friends, in the past several days I was looking at all the eActivities that I had downloaded during the past year. When I mentioned the file limit error, it was a duty of mine to count the maximum number that its file system can allow! Unbeliveable, but I was so close to my prediction: the maximum is 128 eActivities in its flash memory! Of course, 100=128 in binary algebra...

I think that the limit should be changed to 1000:1024!

FATAL ERROR: The problem above is not very serious!

You have to read the next paragraph! Sorry for all the things that I said before! Well, this is really an internal ClassPad scandal! The ClassPad Flash memory System supports only exactly 50 add-ins at a moment! Shame for all the ClassPad developers! You must agree that I am the most eccentric ClassPad user, after I managed to discover three physical limits of the ClassPad BIOS!

They are: the internal stack level number (in my Basic programs), the maximum number of eActivities (while trying out all the published eActivities) and the limit to the number of add-ins installed (while recompiling the SDK example projects one by one)! This problem is so serious, that I demand immediate action from Brian in the OS version 3.00 which is under development now!

I can agree that maybe 128 eActivities are enough for a teacher! But only 50 add-ins for years of continuous updates?! I have almost 3MB of free space out of 4MB of available space in my ClassPad flash memory, and I succeeded to reach all the limitations given by the OS!

My dear friends, I hope that you remember that some time ago, I said that I have a really strange computer!

Now not only the SDK runs perfectly under MS WIN98 but now I noticed that although I set to create add-in file only *.cpa, an executable Windows is also created in the same directory! It seems that I have to suggest Brian to send my notebook to detailed examinations in Saltire! It is improving its performance as the years go on! Of course I have to wait a minute for an add-in to be compiled but I am happy that I do not have to buy a new notebook to use the whole ClassPad SDK! Cool!

My dear friends, I hope that you would allow me note one traditional Macedonian proverb in this occasion! It is: from the trees you cannot see the wood! At least, I hope that you will be happier now! However, the case is tragical! Do not read it before getting to sleep! Bye!

TIP: It runs the *.exe files under MS DOS, like JAVA...

I hope that you remember that I am Java programer!

I may only say that C++ and JAVA are very similar! It is only sorry that it shows the message: The ClassPad can be run only on MS WIN 2k/XP! I do not mind this!

P.S. If the allowed add-in number is not increased the situation will become similar to that in the Algebra! Do not let me mention the flash memory with six clusters, every 128kB long! Even FAT is better than it! See you!

P.S. It seems that Brian was very smart that he sent a new ClassPad to me! You see, I have filled up all MCS memory at my first ClassPad with my Basic programs; now I have even to send different add-ins to different ClassPads... Just one point: the ClassPad memory is 6 times larger than that of the Algebra; however, it can support rougly same number of add-ins proportionally to the memory size: 6*8=48! It turns out that the file systems of Algebra and ClassPad are equally bad! CU!

TIP: You have a whole week to comment on these while I am enjoying the holiday!

I agree, no need to read it: just pass it or forget it quick.

The ClassPad Flash memory System supports only exactly 50 add-ins at a moment!

Omg! Unbelievable! :o *ironic*

Excuse me?

hope that you remember that I am Java programer!

:plol:

If the allowed add-in number is not increased the situation will become similar to that in the Algebra!

50 is a bit more than 6, don't you think?

It turns out that the file systems of Algebra and ClassPad are equally bad! CU!

Filip, go sleep... -_-

Pocket Viewer - Application Name Setting Tool Version 0.1, Programmed by M. Yanagisawa; and at the end...

It's no secret, the ClassPad shares a lot with the design of the PocketViewer. The last version of the PocketViewer was redesigned to use the SH processor at the same time the ClassPad was being designed, so both machines are using a similar low level OS.

They were designed from the ground up using a 32 bit CPU and multi-threaded operating system. There is no DOS or Windows 3.11 involved.

I can agree that maybe 128 eActivities are enough for a teacher! But only 50 add-ins for years of continuous updates?!

I was not aware of the 50 add-in limit. I do not know what is causing this. It might be the flash file system, but it might be the launcher screen. How can you ever scroll through more than 50 add-ins?

Actually, 128 limit for eActivities is a bigger problem right now than the 50 add-ins. Imagine only being able to put 128 pages in a book. Or imagine having a backpack that could only fit one book. There are more than 128 eActivities out there so teachers and students have already been stopped by this limit. Let me know when you see more than 50 add-ins for the ClassPad. :)

When there are more than 50 add-ins I see other problems, like how do you even find the add-in you are looking for?

I believe the 128 eActivity problem is being addressed in a future version of the OS (although I am not positive of the status). I'll forward the 50 add-in problem so hopefully both problems can be addressed at the same time.

Actually, it's a little trickier than that. eActivities and add-ins are stored in the same storage medium. Files *and* folders count against the overall number of items that can be stored. Finally, there are also some hidden files that you can't look at. Maybe if you do some serious SDK hacking. So when trying to guess the limit you should count folders (only those found in eActivity), eActivities and add-ins all-together. So, if you delete some of those eActivities you might be able to install more add-ins. B)

This is being addressed, to some extent, in a future version of the OS.

Sorry I forgot the binary arithmetic for a while... Dear Brian, here is a calculation:
14 educational + 50 additional = 64 all = 2^6. Here is the key for the file system...
By the way, I hope that Crimson will remove Orwell from this topic, since he is behaving in a childish way. So, if you Crimson are honest, do this right now... Bye!
P.S. I am sure that the add-ins and eActivities are stored in different flash sections!

Don't be too sure. It's all stored using the same flash file system.

Dear Orwell, you either update the OS of your ClassPad or update the field in your profile... You will have problems if you do not update yourself regularly! :plol: Bye!
P.S. Mind not to eat something while you are laughing... You may get big problems!

My dear friends, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH...

Strange, this guy has absolutely nothing to say, but he says it continuously... :banghead:
He thinks he is an expert to everything, he descovers "scandals" everyday, and he is an annoying loud mouth with extremely childish behavior. I wander if he even knows anything about Elementary Calculus...
Anyway, if I speak more about him, I will probably make him happier, so I stop here.

I might not agree with Filip posts all the time :D , but at least he posts where many other people do not. he even created the biggest scandal in the ClassPad history.

Remember, everyone is entitled to their opinion and should feel free to voice it. Of course if you disagree with someone you should post your counter-opinions, but don't make it a personal attack.

My feelings are.
  • If you have a strong opinion you should feel free to post it.
  • If you post, you shouldn't get offended if someone (strongly) disagrees with you. If you can't take disagreeing opinions then you shouldn't post.
  • If you disagree with someone you should feel free to post your objections or counter-opinion.
  • You can criticizes someones opinion, but be careful not to make it a full out personal attack.

His posts act like spam in this forum, IMHO. It is not difficult to make a forum unusable, just because anyone can post anything.

Remember, everyone is entitled to their opinion and should feel free to voice it. Of course if you disagree with someone you should post your counter-opinions, but don't make it a personal attack.

I don't want to make a personal attack to anyone here. I just want to say that this is not a general-discussion forum, this is a ClassPad-forum. If someone has anything to say about ClassPad, he should be welcome. If someone wants to use the forum just to broadcast that he/she is a great programmer, then he shouldn't be welcome.

I personally want to see more discussion about ClassPad's CAS system in this forum. There are plenty of posts concerning its basic, which is not ClassPad's strong point, due to the primitive support for function definition. Afterall, ClassPad is a mathematical tool, not a basic IDE.

Can one install Add-ins with mcs and fls files extension with ClassPad 300 Plus Add-in Installer? I can load only files with cpa files extension. Please help! I saw programs written for classPad 300 on classpad.org but can't load or install after downloading because the installer can't read it or supported.

The world record of the forum bump! almost 2.3 years old!.}
joke end

to install add-ins (.cpa) and .fls or .mcs files you can use the new classpad manager 3.0
For de ol' school people as me, i use the CP Add In Installer to get .cpa files on the calc and the CP manager for the rest
