Hello ppl

I am trying to bring back to life my old and loyal FX-880P. After replacing the old batteries, which were completely depleted, I followed the instructions given in the post

http://www.casiocalc...2248&hl=fx-880p

Everything seems to work fine at first. I can perform operations, access the library, etc. However, everytime I press the BRK key the display goes blank and the calculator does not react to any commands, just as if the power had been turned off. The only way out consists in turning the power switch off and on again.

Does anybody know what could be the cause of this problem and how could I solve it?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,

I had something similar to this happen with my FX-850p some while ago.

The fix for me was to press the 'reset' button properly - Beforehand, I though that I had pressed it, but don't think that I did it hard enough.

First of all sorry for the late reply.

I followed your suggestion and verified that I pressed both reset buttons ("All reset" and "P") properly. Unfortunately this hasn't solved the problem and my FX-880P stills passes out every time I press the BRK button. :-(

I'm helpless. Does anybody have any other suggestions?

A brief update on the issue with the BRK key.

These last days I tried any possible combination of the following:

- press "All reset" key near the on/off switch
- press "P" button on the back of the calculator
- remove (and insert again) the two main batteries
- the same with the little back-up battery

I didn't have any success and pressing the BRK key still made the display go blank.

However, my last bullet did actually work. In desperation I removed the first metallic cover, then the batteries and then the screws of the (secondary) plastic cover. This way I gained access to the printed circuit board. I removed one last screw and then lifted up the PCB to access the back side of keyboard. Though it seemed perfectly clean to the naked eye (I couldn't see even a single dust particle), I took a cotton bud impregnated with alchohol and cleaned the contact surface of the BRK key and the power switch. After assembling the calculator again, the BRK key worked perfectly - which being frank actually surprised me. Anyway, I am happy that my FX-880P is in top shape again!

Best regards to everybody,

Gwaihir
