    Classpad 330

On the classpad 330, let's try to evaluate the determinant of the following 3 by 3 matrix:
||||||||||x y z
det([2 13 -7])
||||||||||27 11 13

The answer:
246x-329z-215

Note: y is missing.

Well, if put the x g z, instead of x y z, then the g will not be missed.

So what's wrong with y?

It seems you assigned number "1" to "y" variable. You should clear variables if you want to calculate symbolically.
The answer from my classpad is 246x-215y-329z.
