OK, so I made a little circuit with an led, my arduino, and a pushbutton. When I place my hand near the arduino or the switch, however, the switch will activate.

Any ideas why this would be happening?

Do you touch a contact? How near is your hand? Is it the same effect with a book or something else? I don't know much about this, but maybe this questions help.

OK, a paper towel roll seems to set it off also...

Both times the object (hand or paper towel) was about 6 in. from it. I don't think something is short-circuiting because it consistently happens every time and I am not touching any wires.

EDIT:

The arduino is very sensitive, so the input pin either needs to be grounded or powered, not in between. Fixed it. :)
