Hi,

Does anyone have a complete changelog for the OS 2.00 changes applying to the FX-9860G Slim?

At the moment I'm running OS 01.10.0000 - usually I would just install the update and see, but I've got my FP3 exam next week so I don't want to risk changing/breaking anything if the update doesn't have anything worth updating for.

Thanks in advance.

Markus,
That's one of the topics I've been keeping my eye on - the FX-9860G
update to OS 2.0

I think the best way is to show you to the page that lists the changes:

OS 2.0 9860G Changes

You can compare this to the additional functionality quoted for the
FX-9860GII models:

FX-9860GII functionality over FX-9860G

These are basically the same changes for 9860G and 9860G Slim but, I
have been told that there are some differences for the 9860G Slim. In
particular, the Slim model, even with the OS 2.0 update, will not show
results in surd format - they will instead be shown in decimal format. This
means that, instead of SquareRoot(3)/2, you get 0.8660254038 and I
suppose that's not a bad trade given the load of extras we get from the
update. Not sure about expressions that contain Pi (3.141592654), maybe
someone else knows about that kind of expression in the Slim upgrade to
OS 2.0

According to Mardoxx, the Slim has the exact same functionality as the
9860GII with the exception of showing expressions or results in surds or
in terms of Pi.

From all that I've read in various forums, the Slim upgrade has gone very
smoothly, with the exception of various third-party software that is now
broken due to the upgrade. From what I understand, this is not the fault
of Casio but the fault of the programmers. You have to be careful writing
software so that it survives an upgrade! If you've had the Slim for a while,
then you are probably aware that there are differences between the Slim
and the standard models of 9860G.

It's up to you whether or not to upgrade. Perhaps wait til after the exam;
I don't know for sure if all functions work as you are used to. Exam time
isn't the time to figure out your calc's new quirks! :-)

As an afterthought, here is a link to the manuals for the 9860G and GII:

Casio Support - 9860G series manuals

This will give you some idea of how the new OS 2.0 works as compared
to the old OS. Applies to the Slim model as well and note there is a
separate manual for the Slim model hardware.

Hope all this helps.

Thanks for the reply! The update looks good, but like you say, I'll wait until after the exam to upgrade it - Knowing my luck if I updated now something I need would be in a different place and I wouldn't be able to find it :P

Shame it doesn't include the surd/pi format, I usually take in a Casio FX85ES too if I need that though.
