in fx-9860GII, is there a command that easily caluclate ∑x² so I can store it in a variable? What I am doing now is having to go to stats mode and doing 1-variable calculation. I get I list of data from which I have to write down my ∑x² then copy it from my paper into the calculator in math-run mode.
How to use ∑x² of a list in mat-run?

In RUN-MAT mode press VARS - STAT - X and choose the required variable. After recalling You can also store the variables to the memory.
see UG, page 1-23 - chapter Variable Data (VARS) Menu
The VARS is very useful method how to recall variables.

How do I specify my list. It keeps telling me 'no data'

Everything is OK on my calc.
In stat mode enter the data, press CALC(F2) - SET(F6), fill the correct list to 1Var XList and frequency to 1VAR Freq, then press exit, press 1VAR(F1) to calculate the stat results for 1-Variable statistics. The results are displayed. Switch to Run-Mat mode and recall the appropriate variable.
The similar procedure is for 2-Variable statistics (regressions)- you need to fulfill 2Var XList, 2Var YList, 2Var Freq, then press exit, press 2VAR(F2) or REG(F3) to calculate the stat results for 2-Variable statistics.
The excellent guide is Learning_Mathematics_with_Graphics.pdf (check fx-9860G II on the left)
