I've just bought a new cable from Charlie Watson and it isn't working. No response whatsoever, just like the broken one. The only thing I can think of is I'm using my own adapter.

its either your adaptor or the serial port on your PC, try using comm2 instead

Link cable

Try this to see if the problem is your serial port or you cable, using hyperterminal.

did you buy the pin adapter from Charlie Watson?
are you sure you are holding the cable plug into your calc port when transmitting, as the cables don't click in well.

hmmm, you shouldnt need to hjold cables in atall! but yes, using hyperterminal is the best solution, if you want, i will post a link to a file i created, that is setup specificaly for testing the linkcables.

well, i have the similar problem before... but i bought from purple computing in the us, you need to push the 8mm plug deep until
you hear a 'clicking sound', that confirms good contact between
the comm port and the casio plug. mak sure your comm port is
working first by trying to use a mouse, if yes then you change
the cable with your new one, if still not working then you probably
need to do continuity test using a multimeter just to verify the contacts between all important pins, if not then you migh want
to check the plug inside your afx

regards

I went to buy an adapter but all the computer shops are closed for the end of year stocktake. Maybe it's to do with my calculator because I lost the protective rubber stopper for the port ages ago (is there one?). I'll try holding it in but that is a bit tragic for a new cable.

It seems like I've hacked the calculator too much last year (Drawdyna, 255x255 matrix etc.) as it seems to be functioning differently, commands seem to take different amounts of time... anyway, Happy New Year!

be sure you push the cable very deeply into the calc!! I had the same problem last year and I thought tha cable was broken, while it worked fine but I did not push it deeply enough into the calc...you have to hear a very distinctive "click".....hi!

i still think it is bad design to have to hold in the cable or use excessive force.

Nevermind that, it was a mistake!
He probably wanted this topic to join the Link Cable FAQ, I just checked the history of the guy who reported this and he's ok, he didn't mean it.

I hope the bad thing here is the cable and not the calculator. One time i was using my AFX, uploading games then playing some ASM/C games. Then i dont like one game and i decide erase it, then i connect my interface to the calculator and the calculator serial port dont work!! :'( .

It was a really strange mistery for me, why the damned serial port suddenly dont work. Maybe thats the reason i bought a classpad, i like make programs on my calculator, but i dont like the idea of do it and re-write it on the PC.

It was my calculator in the end, a lesson never to assume things: the cable is fine. CW says I shouldn't buy a new calc as a 1MB one is coming about and will be approved by the time I get to Year 12 (hehe, casiokingdom 1MB, did you hear that...). For now he recommends poking the socket with a paperclip because it is short circuiting (the comp gets a faint signal). Any other suggestions... if not I will close the topic. :roflol:

Forget about notes, you could store your entire textbook in there! But you're right, it's not memory that's important... it's the functions.

This is really off topic but what city is the official version of Monopoly held? I have one in London but I don't think it's the official version. You know, the one with Boardwalk instead of Mayfair? And I don't remember Monopoly being so complicated when I played it as a child. All this auctioning stuff, interest and rules on such tiny details like houses not being able to differ by 2 and I thought money in the middle is collected with Free Parking...

What the hell, I'll make a simpler boardgame. casiokingdom, have you played MEGABUCK$?
