how are you all my dear casio lovers!!!
i have read about a hidden menu in casio afx
you can reach it by pressing: F6+ab/c+AC(on)
note:hold these keys when the calculator is off
this menu is a testing tool for the calculator hardware ram-rom-flash-lcd-keys etc
one of this menu items is (+service) which contains:1-initialize mask(ie:rom)
2-initialize flash
warning don't try to initialize either of them
it will clear rom or flash and ask you to send the new data
my questions are here :how can a rom (of type mask be initialized )?
can we program the rom or transfer its contents to pc?
what is the best cable circuit one can make (please say if it worked with u or not)
sorry for making it too long
B) :rolleyes:

The best link cable you can make its in this sites:
Andy's site
Maitre kiwi site
You can find the diagram and PCB's.

About for program the ROM, i dont think so, as i know you must extract the ROM from your calculator then input a new program. Also i dont know if the ROM of the calculator can be rewrited (if its E-PROM, EEPROM etc..). You can see the ROM contents if you can extract the ROM then read the values writen in it, but you only see hex numbers no mnemonics. There are some users that make ASM/C programs for the calculator, they know a lot about the AFX hardware, wait til they came here.

uhm. We know that.
it is called ZX945 TEST MODE (what you mean by GY350?)
there is yet another hidden menu <span class=F6' /> + [->] + [AC/on],
[->] is just above [AC/on].
this menu won't eras your calc's memory it just displays internal calcs memory structures (you can view program's passwords with it). Well look at some casio pages I think it is already explained there.
as for ZX945
I never managed to use those "MASK" menus.
Maybe it would allow to change contents of bootable disk A:.
BTW. "4. DET" sub menu will show if you batteries are low.
"5. TRANS" allows testing cable (transmit sends bytes from 0 to 255 and receive waits for those bytes).

Roeoender.

Great andy, also i think you are using the MAX-232 that dont need external capacitors (dont remember well if the correctly number is MAX-232-A).

roe, It seems that this string like ZX945 or GY350 identify the rom version!

Yeah GY350 is another model number, I dont remember how they line up anymore to the marketing names (like Algebra FX 2.0) but if you recall (I know I do) there was a thread WAAAY back when I listed all of the model numbers in the AFX 'series', many of these later became the model numbers of the plus versions but we had no knowledge of the plus versions then. The model numbers I had came from "investigating" Add-In Installer :) It seemed Casio planned ahead with their software.

I think the RM-AFX calcs might have had different model numbers too but I dont remember explicitly anymore.

The ROMs of the calcs are quite easily obtained, the easiest way being to download the upgrade for the RM-AFX versions as those models (intended for teachers) are ROM upgradeable and when the Plus models were released a update was released by Casio that contained the ROM. It may still be available.

The other method is to ask for the ROMs from people like me who have a nice collection :)
