Recently I have bought a fake fx-82MS calculator. A body is same with the original fx-82MS, but internals is little different.
The calculator is powerred from two button cells instead of one AA in fx-82MS, internal calculations are mostly same (compare with fx-991MS) but have some differences:
- 16 internal digits vs 12
- display don't blank while thinking
- cursor disappear when holding [LEFT] or [RIGHT] keys
- can't see '-----' symbols in reset modes
May be other differences.
The debug/test mode is diferent: calculator print key codes at lest and number 0183 at right.

BTW: I saw another fakes: fx-3600PV, fx-3900PV, fx-3800P (all has internals of the Sharp EL-506)
The fakes "W" series calculators has two versions: first has functions same with fx-82TL but different names, and second has another unknown calculator inside.

You may see some pictures of fake calculators at

why would someone want to fake a calculator??? to make money? i doubt it, they would have to spend quite a bit to make each fake.

The debug/test mode is diferent: calculator print key codes at lest and number 0183 at right.

This statement made me wonder a lot, and after a little search I was able to find that debug mode you were talking about.
I assume it's working with all the new generation MS series.
It worked with my fx-570MS.

Here is how: (quite similar to our big calculators :) )
  • Hold <span class=Shift' /> and <span class=7' />
  • Press [AC/on]
  • Keep pressing <span class=Shift' /> to view all the combinations of the calculator screen until the number '1' appears, this is the keys (buttons) test mode.
  • Now press all the buttons in order from left to right, top to bottom to see if the key is working or not.
  • Note: Pressing [AC/on] anytime exits this mode, so don't try pressing it while in the key test mode, they suppose it's working since you were able to enter this mode.
  • Note 2: Maybe they should assume that the <span class=Shift' /> and <span class=7' /> buttons are working since you were able to enter this mode too.
  • Note 3: The arrow buttons are in a different order.

No, that has nothing to do with the calc being fake, I just found out about the debug mode he mentioned.
If you have only one look at the calculator in his link, it's not a CASIO original at all.

This faked fx-82MS has a hidden contact at backplate. After shorting this contact you need to press the AC/on key within two seconds while display is blank.
Then you will see all segments (display is different from the original too).
Press [any key] to clear the screen.
Press again [any key] to enter a keyboard test mode. You will see not a number order codes (1, 2, 3, etc in original Casio) but in chaos order (09..65) with some key codes misses.

Hi. :)
fx-570MS and fx-991MS, which one is more attractive to you ? As I know, they have all the same function, aren't they? If you have these model, please tell me which one (fx-570MS and fx-991MS) do you prefer? I intend to by one, because in national test, they don't allow using Graphing calculator.
Thanks.

fx-570MS and fx-991MS both SAME calculators. A differences is a solar power only (for the fx-991MS). I use the fx-991MS.

By the way, if you need a small calculator, the Citizen SRP-350 is better and cheaper.

Thank you :) . In my opinion, I like fx-991MS.
Do you know some special keys combination ?

<span class=Shift' /> [ON] only.

What is a number after test complete? I guess that 1 mean "full functions variant".

Read my post above for the test/debug mode.
It applies to MS calculators.
