Hi!
Together with Marcel, the owner of the TechFreak02 site, I'll try to upgrade the Ram of the Casio CFX9850GB + to at least 64kbyte. This should be very easy because every 9850GB Plus has got 128kbyte Sram. But it's more than only wiring an adress-pin of the Ram. Can anybody please send me a high-resolution photo of the front side of the pcb, where the Ram, Rom and processor is located?

i'm practically a n00b at this area, so i'll just read and learn, but if you are capable of expanding the RAM of your 9850 GB+, i would surely love it if you made a walkthrough and published it, as i would love to upgrade my own.

Speaking of names, what's the main difference between 9850 G and 9850 GB+ ?

The main software difference is in another ROM-Version, with a build in program library. In PCB Design, there is nearly NO equality between the two versions.

Thanks for uploading, but it's only for 9850G (without B+), which has only 32kbyte Ram on board and which has a very different layout. That tutorial is written by Techfreak (Marcel) with who i try to make the same for the 9850gb +.

I don't need the photo. Marcel (Owner of techfreak site) has managed to "upgrade" Ram to 2x64 kbyte (switchable). I think you can see a guide on his page the next days.
About overclocking: It seems to be possible to overclock the calc up to 7,38MHz (stable). But this has to be tested in future (marcel managed to do and mine was instable).

wow, i would love to have my CFX upgraded. i'm looking forward to it. i hope it's easy to do. lol

btw the only member i can think of who has a 9950 is the member who created the game Warrior for the CFX. can't remember his name. Crimson, do u remember?

I think you don't need the photo. My idea (which is based on software hacking) is:
open the calculator and find the address wires for the RAM chip. If you have 32KB RAM you should find 15 wires. These wires should also go to ROM chip so there you can find additional address wires. So to upgrade RAM 32KB to 64KB just replace the chip and the highest address line connect to the lowest address line to ROM, which is NOT used by RAM. Calculator may accept this without ROM change.

But in case of larger RAM than 64KB you can do it similar way. But you will be unable to use RAM above 64KB without ROM change. See my page - (http://www.rkk.cz/~mpoupe/cfxarch.html) it's not exactly about your problem, but explains you what I said. Simply said there is no instruction in the whole ROM which is possible to address RAM above 64KB.

If somebody upgrades his RAM to 128KB, it could be interesting (and probably possible and not so difficult) to change calculator behaviour to store programs to high 64KB but the memories lists and matrices to low 64KB. But this requires ROM change.

You didnt read my post properly - it is VERY SIMPLE to upgrade Ram to 64kbyte! I will make a homepage for that, maybe today a similar version so that you can upgrade as fast as possible ;-)
For the very fast:
Just remove R21 (near the big capacity on processor board) and connect the pins for R20 (you can use R21 for that, it's a 0 Ohm R).
That's all!

And Martin: Are you Martin Poupe?
Could you perhaps see from a Romdump of 9850GB Plus for what are R22/R23? These 4 Rs stand for 4 jumpers with 4 combination, R20/21 switches between 32/64kb Ram. But R22/23 have no effect.

Yes, I read it only partially:-)
I own the old classic model cfx9850G,which has only 32KB RAM chip, so it is unable to upgrade it this way.

I don't have ROM dump for 9850GB Plus, only for the original cfx9850G. The RAM testing routine is a part of ZX933 test mode, which source is on my page at http://www.rkk.cz/~m...nuals/ZX933.TXT
But this probably doesn't help you because of another hardware.

I already read your page - i wonder how you could find all these things out. But I agree, this doesn't help me. Perhaps i should forget about R22/23 and be happy with 2x 32kb Ram ;-)

I have a CFX9850GB+ PCB ZX939 the same as you and I’m trying to upgrade the 32kb ram to 64kb
R21 and R20 don’t work for me, taking out the R21 the cal don’t work. R21 disconnect (chip enable from the main ram Toshiba chip TC55257-32 kb)

R18 / R19 and R22 / R23 don’t make changes on the cal. (connected to sanyo LC3564SM - 64Kb to CE1 CE2, chip enable)

I have semantics from CFX9850G not form CFC9950GB+ and I have schematics Toshiba TC55257, sanyo LC3564SM etc

Can you help me please?

What I have in mind is to put some inverter on the PCB of the cal and change all R18 / R19, R20 / R21, R22 / R23 instead of put a new RAM chip on top of ROM

The calculator you have is quite old, older than the thread itself. I'm afraid the users discussing this rarely show up here anymore. (Martin just posted though)
