I just bought a SB-87-w PC link cable for my Algebra FX 2.0 PLUS, and i can't transmit or receive any information.
What can the problem be? What can i do about it?
Thanks for any help.

What Pc communication software are you using? mak sure you have FA123 not FA122. Check that you have slectyed the corrct COM ports on you PC and make sure that the cable is properly plugged in. You may need a patch, but im not sure.

Yeah, it's the FA-123 program, for sure. I get an error message, on my calculator when i try to transmit, "Transmit error", and also an error message on the program when i try to transmit from the PC, "Check whether tool-model type is correctly selected" (It is correctly selected), "Check for proper connection of the comunication cable" ( as well as i can see it is properly connected) and finally"Check that the port was correctly selected using Link-Communications", i only have one 9-Pin free port, so i connected the cable to it, and i have tryed selecting all of the ports on the program and it still won't work.
I Have also changed the properties of the FA-123 program so that it runs in compatibility mode with win98, and then i also tryed win95! Still won't work.

Type of file? I?m just opening the file menu and selecting "New-AlgebraFX".
Then i add an item (program), double click on it, write something, simple words and try to send it to the calculator. But i also can't send things from the calculator to the PC. How can i be sure of the port i'm using being correct?
Or, can someething be wrong with the cable? or the calculator? Maybe just a compatibility problem.

Try putting new batteries to the calc - my cable doesn't work with weak batteries.

And one of the old tricks that happened to me.
When you connect the cable to your calculator, insert it properly till you hear the CLICK sound.
I was fooled twice this way. :)

----------EDIT-----------

Ahh, now I've noticed something more, you're using Windows XP!
Due to unknown reasons, many users (I am one of them) can't use FA-123 under WinXP, try to run it on another PC having Win98 or WinME.

I've deleted the other topic you made, don't start a new one just because you're worried.
If you try this on another PC and it doesn't work, there are still a handful of tests to try.

Ok! I've tried the click thingy and...i think it clicked but, not a real click but i think it is well atached but...it still doesn't work man.
What else can i try? Anyone?
and i already tried replacing the batteries, still doesn't work.
Sorry about the extra post, didn't know.

I must be lucky as I use FA123 under XP. Ok load FA123, and click on:

Tool > Model Type > ALGEBRA FX series

Then look at the back of your PC to see what COM port the cable is plugged into (they are uysually labled, and its usually plugger into COM1)

In FA123 click:

Link > Communtications... > and select the correct COM port. Bear in mind that for some people the cable will only work on COM1 not COM2

Hope this helps!

Well i don't know much about ports, but....how can i know which port it is?
I don't think they are labeled. IS there more than one version of FA123? I'm really desperate man, i really needed to get this thing workin till tomorrow. damn it. Thanks for trying anyway. Any more ideas?

just try all the ports and see if that helps. also make sure you have the right model selected.

after that, you can also connect the cable on another port (just get another one free, you'll reconnect it later)

Will do. I'll try that, still....not quite sure it will work. Maybe it is something about the cable or the calculator. Must try it on another PC. And maybe a different operating system. Are u sure the FA123 is compatible with XP, without any patches? The normal FA123, that i got from http://www.casio.co.jp/edu_e?
is it?

just try all the different compinations of com ports and com ports on the FA-123 program, and you might try it on win98 like Mohamed said :)

If you think it's the wrong cable, you can try this patch : http://perso.wanadoo...p/fxiandcat.zip
(after, you can also unpatch it)

If you are stuck with using FA123, then you could always download CasioCOM from my site, and that can do BASIC file transfer, even if it is a little unstable :)

I also have the "Receive Error" while using WinXP but after i press AC the program is in the calculator as it should be, btw my calc is a CFX and my cable is home made, and this happens if i use my computer but one time i took the cable to school because a friend of mine wanted to see if it worked with his AFX and in is laptop it worked flawlessly in WinXP :banghead: don't ask me why, i don't know

It still isn't working. I don't think that there is anything wrong with the program itself or with the fact that i am running it under WinXP, i really think the real problem is either related to the COM port or with the cable itself. The cable doesn't really "click" when i put it into the Calculator, it looks like it is secure but it doesn't "click" like a friend of mine's cable does.
I'm gonna try the patch anyway and the other program, nothing else works. And i only have one port COM in my PC so, not much chance that i am using the wrong one.
What else can you tell me????

try your friends cable with you PC and your calc. then try you cable with his PC and his calc.

Another thought:

If your cable is home made, then you may need the battery version of the unofficial cable (MAX22) as some PC's cant handle the current drain on them.

I also have a homemade cable. I get errors when I try to transmit or recieve either way. :( My connector also does not click (although I didn't know it was supposed to). I only have one com port on my computer and I have tried all the combinations. I have the battery version of the homemade cable (somebody else built it for me as I have no knowledge in this area). Is there anything I can do to check the cable or possibly fix it?
