What is the processor speed (hz) of the 9850GB plus?

The external clock doesn't mean much because the processor may be working at a faster clock, because it can have an internal pll that usually (at least for PICs) multiplies by four the external clock

PLL means Phase Locked Loop, it's an electronic circuit used by some micro controlers (PICs) (at least the MicroChip ones) to multiply the external clock frequency by four so you don't have to put a fast clock outside the processor, the PLL can also be used to receive FM radio and possibly it can have lots of other uses that a don't know.

Is it the same chip the AFX uses?

Wait, wait, wait. Are you saying that if I really wanted to, I could modify my calc to recieve FM radio?

No, you can't recieve radio, he was speaking about one of the uses of the PLLs (Phase Locked Loops).

What he meant in the first place, is that the real frequency of the crystal wouldn't indicate the real speed of the processor, and it's usually divided by a certain factor using a PLL circuit.
For example, if the crystal is 2 MHz, and the PLL divider ratio was four, then it would operate at 8 MHz!

Did you get it?

Yes, I think I get it now. I was just a little excited when he said they could be used for radio reception. :P

I haven't tryed it with other calculators but if you tune your AM radio to a blank station and hold a TI-89 close to the radio, you can hear noises which change depending on what you make the calculator do. Some clever programmers took advantage of this to add primitive sound effects to their games. I suppose this is the same phenomenon.

Nope, that effect is one thing that nobody wants, it's EMI (Electro Magnetic Interference) it happens with other calcs too i've tryed that with my CFX, same effect.
And i'm sory if i lead you to think that you could receive radio with your calc

That would be awsome. I could be sitting in math class with my calculator, and instead of sleeping like everyone else, I could be jamming with my favorite tunes. :) :P
