Hello,
I know that some guy (if You are the "some guy", please excuse me, I like what you did) has done some hacking of the CFXes in order to run custom machine-language code. Is there some way to do that without replacing the ROM chip?

In a word: nope. Nobody has yet figured out a way to release control from the Casio "OS" by any means other than to replace the ROM. From looking at various CFX ROM images, it seems impossible to do so.
