if you can, use COM 1
make sure FA123 is set to the correct port
make sure FA123 is sending in FX/AFX mode, not CFX mode

also

do i need a patch for the fa 123 software ?fxi to cat? to make it work with my cable

1) NO, most cables are 9pin since barely any computer has a 25pin comport nowadays and FA-123 works with either since the protocoll is identical

2) No. You do want to install cat files don't you? since you can't install fxi with the FA-123

3) Yes. Try Win2K ... XP sucks!

nahh XP's better than 2k, it runs smoother. My computer never crashes, I can let it turned on for weeks... (but I hate the "XP style", fortunately you can make it looks like 2k :) )

opposite for me. My 2K did never crash (it just fails to recognice the power management of the PC after 1 reinstall and shuts not down clearly) but my XP does crash a lot. IT is not even able to suspend the notbook anymore after 1 month of (active) usage.

I say M$ did never make a better os (in the windows series) than 2K what does not mean that 2k is a good os but it is, IMO the best from M$.

Btw. my XP is up2date but my 2K works all fine with only SP4 ;)

hmmm, I've set up many XP that works just as good as mine, if XP doesn't work it's always because of a bad driver somewhere... For example I cannot use the driver that M$ proposes (on win update) for my ASUS integrated gigabit network card or my computer will crash or freeze/reboot with no apparent reason... If I download the driver from the Network Card constructor, everything works perfectly.

I used to accuse Micro$oft too when my computer crashed but I realized that the most often it's a problem related to non M$ software pieces or bad hardware (bad RAM or miscellaneous bad firmwares)

has to be 25 pin? all the circuit diagrms i have show clearly that it can be wired to 25pin or 9 pin connectors.

it works fine on all my machines (Server 2003, XP Pro SP2, XP Pro SP2, XP Home SP2

here is the update
i'm trying the cable on a win 98 computer but im still having prob

if i hit send from the computer my calc immediatly says recieve error. does this means the com port is right b/c the calc tries to recieve something?

also on this comp the com port is 1 and i am using the casiocom and fa 123 software.

im begining to think its the cables problem b/c this website show a cord with one hump

http://pfranc.com/pclink/pcl9.htm

while the one i bought has two smaller ones

http://cgi.ebay.com/...bayphotohosting

thanks for your help
this is really frustrating

2 bumps = better than 1 (=2 capacitators, double as secure ;) )

I don't want to sound mean or anything but are you sure the comport works? have you ever had any device working on it (e.g. modem) or is it, maybe, turned off in the BIOS?

Just to make sure ;)

important sites will be up again soon hopefully ... (but without fast updating at first if they are hosted by me since I need some talkback from my provider)

For turning on the comport:

This is in the "chipset features" setup of the bios. There you can turn the serial, paralell, usb, firewire, ethernet ... controllers on (enabled) or off (disabled). I think nearly all modern bioses have this option.

it could be a broken com port on the calc, or you arnt pluging in the cable to the ccalc properly, sometimes they are very stiff, push them in untill you get a loud click...

fair point, tho the send and receive lines could have been wired in backwards, this would make it work when you connect them together and test with hyperterminal, but the clacs wouldnt work with it.

@agustin_d: try what huhn_m tell you, i had a problem with the calc-pc communication sometimes ago and it was because my AFX serial port was damaged. Try to do a calc to calc connection for know if the serial port works correctly.
