Really Lost!

I just recently bought an fx-9860G, the one with the USB support..
Wanted to know if anyone can help me out and clarify exactly what software I can use to copy over BASIC (or whatever other language is supported, if there are others) programs over to using FA-124? (I think that's the name of the program)
I can get my calculator connected through USB and transfer whatever I have on there to my PC, but I have no clue exactly what I'm doing, the format of the files I end up with, or how to transfer files to the calculator!
I hope someone can point me to a descriptive guide, or outline what I should do.
Thanks a lot for any replies!
By the way, what programs are compatible with this calculator? (In terms of programs for other calculators)

And where can I get programs in the format of what FA-124 wants?
Thanks.

For a guide ... well can you point me to the FA-124 software since I have no time searching it. If it is not available legally over the web then we'll have to wait for one of the 9860 owning members since I know that some allready succsessfully converted programs to the 9860.

Not sure if it's legal or illegal to do that..

Connect the Casio.
Start FA-124 and choose "connect". The casio will be synchronised with the computer. There is two parts on the screen : one for the casio, the second for the computer. Open Casio files in the computer part and make a drag and drop to put the file in the Casio part. The fille wil be automatically upload to the Casio.

Yup, but what is the file extension of these CASIO files? :}
From what I can see, the 9860 works only with .g1m files
however FA-124 can convert .cat files into .g1m format.
Please try the following, and reply to say how you get on.
Step 1. Using g1m files
I've used the french version of FA-124, so assuming the english language FA-124
works in the same way the following should help with opening programs.
The french version of FA-124 is available on several websites by googling "casio fa-124"
The french version has 8 menu items on the main menu bar:
Fichier Editer Outils Transmission Affichage Outils Fenetre Aide
Don't know for sure what the English version says so I'll
refer to these as the 1st menu item, 2nd menu item etc..
As mentioned by Jbou the screen is split into two halves. One for 9860 and one for
computer. (As long as you haven't changed the type of calculator to 7400/9850/afx)
If you left-button-click in the computer window on the "+" sign next to where it says "Default"
you can expand and collapse the Default contents
and as long as "Default" is highlighted you can now start a new program from the 3rd main menu item.
Double left-click on your new program to edit it.
Right-click on a program or on Default to open or save g1m files.
Step 2. Converting .cat into .g1m
To do the conversion there are three things you need to know:
1) to open .cat files you must select 7400/9850/AFX from the 6th main menu item
(unless you've already selected this type in which case calculator-type is the 4th item)
2) by opening a program for editing, you can highlight the whole text of the program,
copy it, change calculator type back to 9860, open editor as described above and paste the text into the editor, it can now be saved as g1m.
3) .cat files come in two types. 7400/9850 and Algebra FX. For the copy/paste
procedure to work you must first make sure the .cat file is in Algebra FX format.
If not then resave it using Save As.. from the 1st main menu item and from the
Save As.. box select the Algebra FX mode, then close it down and reopen it.
Step 3. Where to find files
The only website I've seen with .g1m files is http://www.jeuxcasio.com
(translate it with http://translate.goo...com/translate_t
For .cat files see the filesharing part of this forum
or some of the other casio websites
e.g. Casio Program Avenue at:

I've tried your copy and paste thing, but I can't get it to work right!
I'm trying to do it with this -> http://perso.wanadoo...nload/cfxyz.zip
Whenever I paste, the symbols get corrupted, such as the line-termination symbol and -> symbol.
I was hoping maybe you could help me out here.
Thanks!

I'm trying to do it with this -> http://perso.wanadoo...nload/cfxyz.zip
Whenever I paste, the symbols get corrupted, such as the line-termination symbol and -> symbol.
I've just done the conversion on the cfxyz.cat from your stated zip file into g1m and back again.
I changed calc type to 7400/9850 and opened the file cfxyz.cat,
then opened the Save As.. dialogue from the File menu,
- - selected the Algebra FX Series option - -,
clicked OK,
it said this file already exists,do you want to replace it, I clicked yes,
then there was a message about model types,
I clicked OK,
now that it was in Algebra FX mode, I copied the text of the program
all except the first line
Then I changed the type to 9860, opened the editor
and pasted in the text, making sure not to overwrite the first line that
is put in automatically.
That still leaves the contents of F-Mem which seemingly has to be typed manually
into calculator.
Make sure you don't copy/paste the first line about the filename.
What happens if you follow the above, do you get the same messages popping up
as I've described?
Also I've put the resulting CFXYZ.G1M file on the webpage:
http://members.lycos.../rfam/9860.html
Tell me if it works.

Also, when I go to Graph Now!, I get "Memory ERROR Press: "...
Either this calculator is too weak when it comes to RAM to run this, or I did something wrong? (I don't even know where to give it the function.. )

You must store the function in F-mem before running the program.
When you switch your calculator on, press 1 to go into RUN mode.
Type in the formula e.g. sin X+sin Y
Then press the keys OPTN' />F6' /> F3' /> to access the F-mem menu
followed by F1' /> to store the function in f-memory f1.
Now run the program.
------
It's been mentioned on this forum that the 9860 runs faster than the old 9850
so probably nothing can be done about the speed unless cfxyz is rewritten.
------
I've just previewed this post prior to posting it and noticed it's converted
the keys into images. Way Cool !
