I am wondering, what the key [(-)] is good for.

I know it is used to enter negative numbers. But this can be also achieved by the key [-].

Does anybody know a situation, where [(-)] really behaves different then [-]?

Casio FX-991MS, Casio FX-991ES

Right :)

I should have been more precise:
Does anybody know a situation, where [(-)] really is needed and can't be replaced by [-]?

Yes ...

You can simply do (-) 2 to get a result of -2

Or

2^(-)2 to get a result of .25

The point is ... It's mathumatically more correct !

You can simply do (-) 2 to get a result of -2

But you can just type -2 to get the same result.

Or 2^(-)2 to get a result of .25

But you can just type 2^-2 to get the same result.

In my opinion Casio is wasting valuable space with this extra key.

I sometimes use it for doing 2 calculations and so it doesn't use 'Ans' in the second calculation:

for example:

first I want to know 1+1
<span class=1' />[+]<span class=1' /><span class=EXE' /> -> result 2

then I want to know -7+2
[-]<span class=7' />[+]<span class=2' /><span class=EXE' /> -> result = -3
while
[(-)]<span class=7' />[+]<span class=2' /><span class=EXE' /> -> result = -5

So the/a difference is that when you use - it will automatically add 'Ans' and if you use (-) it won't.

(-) makes the number negative.
try doing negative square roots or adding negatives to negatives

Casio FX-991MS, Casio FX-991ES

This short minus [(-)] is the only access to inverse space character.I used it in old good times of fx7700GB.

[(-)] -> unary negation

[-] -> subtraction operator
[(-)] -> unary negation

A recent poll found 99% of people use the [-] key for subtraction and the [(-)] for unary negation.

The remaining 1% were art students.

Nuff said.
