TTT,

Looks like you are also an engineer or landsurveyor. :) Perhaps we can work on those programs :D

I am also working on this problem and is converting 603P program into 7400 format. On the display of text I do not think you can do "N = 5" in 1 line. I try using a prompt style to make the interface easier. For example, when working on Leveling, I will first
- Ask for BM, then clear screen when value is key in,
- Prompt for BS, then clear screen when value is key in,
- The finally prompt the FS, then clear screen after EXE and display RL1.
- Then program is prompting for FS again...

That way your display will be more organise. The 7400 cannot display 6 rows, only 5 in practice. So I think by clearing the screen using ClrText is a good way to work it.

I have tried working on a sexagesimal conversion too, but it is too hard. OK to convert from say 23.5 to 23*30'00'' is easy, but unlike 603P you cannot key in 23*30'00'' and expect the calculator to read it as so. Otherwise we can always use the OPT -> Angle.

I will share when I got it. Perhaps you can help me on the surveying part. I am learning and appreciate any help. :)

Hey TTT lets communicate to make some surveying program here. I have a list here, tell me whether they are important or useful in your work. I know US surveying priority is bit different from Europe, also maybe Asia. But the techniques are more lees the same. :)

1. Area: using coordinates, triangle Trapezoid and Simpson rule
2. Volumne: Cross Section and Prismoidal Rule
3. Traverse close and open
4. Inverse
5. Offset, Radial
6. Intersection: ch-ch, ch-bearing, bearing-bearing
7. 3 point resection
8. Levelling with Height method,
9. Curve: Horizontal, spiral, circular, vertical
10. Vertical and horizontal control
11. Triangle solution
12. Circle solution: 1 point, 2 points, 3 points circle solution

Any more?? <_<

because:
- that's useless.
- that clutters the reading.
- that doubles the size of your posts
- that makes long pages to scroll.
- that's stupid.

now can you give at least one good reason?

Yes. One good reason is if there are several paragraphs in the former post that you want to comment about. Without quoting, reading responses paragraph-wise can be quite confusing at times. But you're the admins and this isn't my forum, therefore I succumb to your will, naturally :).

As you can see the above quote is completely useless since It's your entire post that is just above this one... (I'm not quoting/commenting different paragraphs of your post here)

You have the right to use quotes but wisely, that's all.

How to call "Sexagesimal Values Conversion" in program???
Example 34.50833333333 is 34*30'30"

I don't have a 7400 just now, but if it behaves anything like a 9850 then
it should be possible.

On the 9850 you can bring up the angle menu when you are running a program
just the same as if you are in RUN mode.
try this program:

Lbl 1
?->A
A_
Goto 1

where -> is the assignment arrow
_ is the display triangle

To convert dms to decimal, enter 34*30'30" by bringing up the angle menu and just use the same dms separator after the each part.

To convert decimal to dms just enter a number at the ? prompt, press EXE and when the -Disp-
message appears bring up the angle menu and press the dec->dms button.

Actually TTT has solved the problem of DMS conversion according to your method.

A greater challenge is to be able to enter A'B"C" in the form of A.BC where A, B, C are variables for value between 0 and 59. This input method is achievable in FX603P and FX602P and Casio calculators from similar era. For example, to enter 36 degree 23 minute 45 second, we enter 36.2345 at 603P instead of calling the DMS function from the OPTION.

This provides flexibility to the surveyor to enter data in the bearing form or DMS form.

I have the solution to this and a few land surveyors whom I know also have the subroutine for this.
