Yesterday I was putting some stuff on my AFX 2 when I ran into a problem. Since Add-In installer takes for-freakin-ever I got online while info was being transfered from the calc to the PC. That workled fine but when the PC started to upload AOL froze. I tryed to get it back since I was in a conversation but I had to Ctrl-Alt-Del and end it. As soon as I did that Add-In installer gave me an error. When I looked at the calc one line of the display was completly turned off. It wasnt white, it was like was getting no power. I have seen this on other calculators. Ussually there is nothing you can do. I would give up but it does turn on pixels in the border of messages such as "Memory Cleared" , however it is only the border and not any other area. I reset the calculator and when that didnt work I took both batteries out and went to bed. When I woke up and put them back in the line was still missing. What can I do?

Proof that AOL is the devil

I hate to say this, but some of the lines might just be fried. Not exactly sure how that might happen though. You could try forcing the reboot using the "secret" menu of shift-a/b/c-f6 while turning it on. Through there you should be able to force the complete reboot by doing a RAM check or something. Might do the trick.... but no promises. good luck with that :(

But how could it turn on the pixels in the border if the whole line is fried? And why would it fry hardware just because Add-In installer stalled and quit sending data? I noticed that FlashCOM has a thing where you can use an image on your PC rather than DL everything from the calc, is it worth a try to use someone elses image? Probably not since it should be reset like it was when it came from the factory when I left the batts out. Ohh well, maybe I can get Casio to replace it.

I't is definately NOT reset if you leave the batts out!!!

The flash is like a hard drive.

Or is your harddrive empty after you turn off power of your Computer? :D

Go to the hidden Menu (Press a/b/c and hold press F6 and hold and then press AC/ON)

Then press - (minus) to reset ALL Memorys.

Bye huhn

FlashCOM has an option to use an image on the harddisk rather than download from your calc every time you make a transfer. If this is a software problem could I fix it by using an image from somewhere else? If so, can someone send me one?

Id rather try that before I pay Casio since I am not the first owner of it. I would say it is hardware too but it does show pixels in the border so it cant be entirly broke. Would you mind sending it to AlephMobius AT calcware.org?

Crimson:
FlashCOM requires the file to be 128k. You sent me one that is 22k. I sent you another email asking for one of correct size or how I could fix the file you sent me but you never replied. What can I do? Thanks for your help so far.

FlashCOM says the file must be 131072k in size. The one you sent is not so it doesnt work.

 Did you tried to REINITILIZE the calc in the system menu I have one very similar problem, one line simple disappear, but when I reinitialize the calc everything works fine, in the ZX* menu you can rum 6 ?ROM?, when they finish, a error massage will appear, and you will be asked to reset the calc or to shut down the calc, press EXE??

If this not solve your problem it?s because you have damaged some part of the calc hardware???:(

Ok Aleph, you must be doing something wrong, do you have the newest version of flashcom? I can upload the system I sent you, any others I create and download new ones, but they are all 128 KB, if I'm not mistaken 131072k is the size of a CFX so perhaps you are sending it wrong.

this is how I do it:
check the System box.
make sure your calc is in recieve mode.
click Send.
when it asks you to which file to open select the file I sent you.

then it should work.

anyway, I will send another one just in case.

Regardless of what FLashCOM says the file you sent me is 22k in size. I used one Algebrafx2 sent me. It tranfered fine but it didnt fix the missing line. :( I just wanted to try it before I contacted Casio. Oh well, I guess I will just have to call Tech Support. Have any of you sent your calculators off before?

you know, it may not be cost effective to fix, could be easyer just to sell yours and buy a new one.

Who would buy it? Would any of you on the forum be willing to buy one otherwise perfectly functional AFX 2.0 with one line missing from the display? Do you think it would cost more than $50 to fix it? I dont want to pay more than that since thats what I got it from ebay for.
