Hey Everyone

Im pretty new to the forum.

I own a 82ES which i upgraded to the 991(without solar power) as described. However, a friend of mine bought an 82ES recently and when i opened it up, the circuitry inside seems to have been changed since the early 82's. The jumpers P0-P7 isnt there anymore. Anyone know if its still possible to do the upgrade? I can post a pic if required.

If someone could maybe post a pic of a newer 991's PCB maybe?

Any help would be very much appreciated, since the 991 is difficult to find here.

Thanks for a great forum!!

Hendrik

Well, if Casio found this out, they probably changed the circuitry so that you can't do that upgrade.

Hey Hendrik

I've got exactly the same problem... Looks as if Casio have updated the fx-82ES PCB. Have you managed to find a new upgrade solution yet?

Regards
Ed

Sorry to say, but no. Ive not found a solution.

However, I did open up some other 82 bought only a week earlier. It also had a revised circuit, but it still had the jumpers i needed. So some are upgradeable, others not. The only way to know for sure is to open it up!

Cheers
Hendrik

no you can find out without openning on the back on the top right corner of the text box there is a circle inside which is A or B if A then old circuit and upgradable if B new circuit bad luck game over

Everybody:
I'm a chinese boy. [So maybe my English isn't good and maybe there are many problems in the article][I'm only 13!]
I'm glad to tell you, in china we found the way to upgrade the casio fx-82es version b. But you can't keep it after you press on.
Now, let me tell you:
pol(1,1)=
6 □/□ 1 x^□
= left delete 1
(r=1.414213562,0=45)
before the "r" sqrt Ans=
ten Ans,two log■□
press three right ten (
=right,left left left press seven“sin(”
=right,left,press seven (
=left,press seven (
=left,press six (
=left,press six (
。。。。。。Repeat。。。。。。
until the screen become white

AC SHIFT+MODE+8+2【NORM】
SHIFT+MODE+2【Line IO】
MODE
SHIFT+MODE+↓+6+←←

Now your 82es is 991es!!!
How to keep it:(You can't keep it after you press on, because this base on the software. Now the plus series can't)
press Σ(1,100,1000000), and your 82es will be power on 24 hours!
when you need, press two AC.

Good Luck!!!
Good luck!

We found this way in 2009.1~2009.3
In fact, 82es ver b also can upgrade by change the hardware, but that's very difficult. Please look this: http://tieba.baidu.com/f?kz=600120646
I corrected some problems。。。
pol(1,1)=
six □|□ [turn left and see...I don't know its english name...] one x^□ [also i don't know...]
= left delete 1
the screen will display r=1.414213562,0=45
before the "r" input sqrt(Ans) =
ten Ans,two log■□
press three right
ten (
=right,left left left press seven“sin”
=right,left,press seven (
=left,press seven (
=left,press six (
=left,press six (
。。。。。。Repeat。。。。。。
until the screen become white (it means there is nothing on the screen...)

AC SHIFT+MODE+8+2【NORM】
SHIFT+MODE+2【Line IO】
MODE
SHIFT+MODE+↓+6+←←

Just do it. You should be patient, because it'll be slower and slower to display what you input.
Here is the video. (The maker of this video upgraded his fx-82es by the first way that snow_may mentioned)

I don't know if you can connect to this site. I will do another video and upload it to YouTube.

I really don't know what happened to your 82es... It seems that you have some trouble... But PRESS "ON" or CLEAR ALL will clear the function of fx-991es.

it'll change to fx-82es again when you press on :(
Because this way to upgrade the fx-82es is based on software but not hardware
If you want to stop the auto-off, calculate something such as ∑(10000x,1,100000) so it'll always be calculating.
When you want to use, just press AC twice. (But...it's really power consumption)

Or another way is... practice more and when you want to use the function of fx-991es, you will do the upgrade very fast... I can do it in about 70 seconds...

Sorry for my poor English... I think I don't understand what you mean and maybe you also don't stand what you mean... :P

There will be a button on the back of the casio or there will be a link on the board that forces a low level factory restore of the calculator, that is above and beyond software.

How much of a reset that performs, is gods best guess, there is always the chance the firmware won't reload.

Your two options 1 you will need to get seen by a casio engineer team, or 2 diy by ref to manuals and chip infos, if your expert enough to know how to short a data reset on the chip with a pull down resistor link.

The info about the chip can be found on the thread,

http://www.casiocalc...?showtopic=4671

Read through the data sheets before going any further, if you don't see what you need to do, or don't know what your doing, refer to the casio people to restore it to norm, if you messed with the functions, they will probably charge you a fee for reflashing the firmware restore.

Basically those are your options, DIY from the guides, or shell out to pay the fellow that does it for a living.

I am sorry you have got into a state of needing to reconfigure your options, really the cheaper option is to buy the calculator that does what you need.

Casio are really helpful people, I can't see why anyone wants to short change the company just for the sake of it, sure if you need to mod a function somehow, its great to know how to do it, but 16 squids for an fx991ES its nothing compared to the cost of engineering time if you break it, and need it fixed. I would look seriously at the programming infos on the chip, and how to do a complete restore, if you are going to mod the Calc in any way, at least go by the book the guys that made it wrote for you!

When you understand what you have actually got for 16 pounds, you will wonder just why on earth you even thought about messing about?

My history with casio started with a fx451 with a membrane, I moved to a fx570B in the late 80's and these were with me for 20 odd years. I bought a 991ES a while back, and another one recently as a safety backup just in case some blighter nicks it from me when I am old and grey.

Casio are such a good company, look at all the helpful support sites online that are aimed to help you! All that they offer for what 16 quid and a call to register?

DONT TAKE ALL THAT or CASIO, FOR GRANTED, JUST THINK FOR FIVE MINUTES, WHERE WOULD YOU BE IN THE WORLD, WITHOUT THEM, OR WITHOUT A CALCULATOR AT ALL? IF JAPAN JUST WOKE UP TOMMORROW AND SAID, WERE ON HOLIDAY?

ANY GOOD AT LOGS? GOT A TRIG TABLE? KNOW HOW TO USE A SLIDE RULE? ANY GOOD WITH THE ABACUS? RIGHT, I remember the basics, and life is so easy with a calculator, and I KNOW FOR SURE THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF KIDS OUT THERE, WHO ARE NOT BEING TAUGHT AND HAVE NOT BEEN TAUGHT, what to do, or how to do things when the calculator is not there!

I must ask this, why the devil did you risk breaking it in the first place? THINK HARD BEFORE YOU TRY TO MOD YOUR CALCULATOR, ONCE YOU GET IT BACK TO THE BEGINNING.
