hi,

after entering a set of data under SD mode, i could only retrieve the mean by pressing 'shift' + '1' +'=' (i.e. x bar). but can't retrieve the sample standard deviation when i pressed 'shift' + '3' + '=' (i.e. x sigma n-1). i ended up with 'Ma ERROR'.

the steps seems to be correct but i just can't retrieve sample standard deviation or population standard deviation (i.e. x sigma n).

can someone pls help me?

thanks,
huishan

I have a fx-991MS, so I don't know if this will help but, here goes nothing:

Assuming you're working in 1 variable mode (SD mode, not REG mode), and this is the list I'm using for this case

{9, 5, 3, 4, 56, 85, 102.359, 65, 1, 5}

Average = 33.5359

Mode, Mode, 1 (SD)

Input data (9 M+, 5 M+, 3 M+, 4 M+, 56 M+, 85 M+...)

For the sample standard deviation it'd be

SHIFT, 2 (S-VAR), 3, =

Answer: 39.40360812

For the population standard deviation it'd be

SHIFT, 2 (S-VAR), 2, =

Answer: 37.3815449

If your answers are different, check you entered the correct numbers.

If you don't get any answer (e.g. MA ERROR), the either:

1. The fx-991Z model has different steps than the fx-991MS model, or

2. I have no clue as to what could possibly be wrong

Hope I helped :)

I know this reply is YRS late but I myself just searched google a long long time looking for the ans to that same qn. Couldn't find anyth.

BUT after a lot of trial & error, have finally figured it out! When u enter DT, just press the button without using shift. No problem getting std dev after that.

Hope this reply helps others out there with the same problem! :roflol:
