Hello there - I'm about to buy a 9860 model, and I'm torn between getting the SD model or the slimline one. The thing is that I'm not exactly sure how much 1.5MB is in terms of calculator program memory - will it hold, for example, the SYMBOLIX CAS as well as the 'Geometry' and 'Physium' software supplied by Casio? (http://world.casio.c...860g/index.html).
Your expert advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

9860g-sd Or 9860g-slim?

Hello barnaby and welcome to the UCF.
The fx-9860 Slim and fx-9860SD will be both able to hold all three addins that you said.
So the choice goes, if you like portability go for the fx-9860 Slim. If you like to store tons of notes, eActivities, addins, etc. then go for the fx-9860SD.

Thanks, kucalc. One question remains, really - on average, how many 'normal-sized' notes/addins etc will the Slim store?

It can store a lot. I've rarely seens addins that are 70KB and larger. Let's say you want to fill your fx-9860 Slim with a bunch of them. You can store ~20 of these large addins.

Ah, that's good. I'll get the slim one then.

Liking the new skin... one last question - does the Slim run on two or four AAAs?

I believe it runs on four AAA (triple A) batteries.

I believe it runs on four AAA (triple A) batteries.
As an owner of a Casio FX-9860G Slim, it runs on 2 AAA batteries and lasts about a two+ months if you use it ALOT and use the backlight on it frequently (I have poor lighting conditions alot of times so the backlight is of GREAT use
The only drawback to having a Slim is that sometimes some of the add-ins dont work (others like kucalcs Diagnostic add-in never work [unless there's one with the 1.3 OS version - because I bought mine and it came with ver 1.10 (or 1.1 - dont know how you would read "1.10.0000")])
The slim (IMO) is the best one (the backlight and the help function made me buy it!)
Also, there's a built in help function on the Slim (even a 'HELP' button located next to the arrows, above the light button adn right of the number pad
