A couple of years ago, some guys were thinking about connecting a CASIO Algebra FX to the internet, by dialing through a serial modem. It never happened though...

I was thinking about doing something like that for the fx-9860. Have the fx-9860 dial into a Unix shell using a external dial-up modem, or something like that. The TI-83 has a utility that does that: http://www.ticalc.or...s/0/2/2355.html

Do you guys think it would be cool to check your email on your calculator?

It'd be great, but it's too soon to have Internet on calculators, IMO.
However, if anyone finds out the trick to have it on the fx 9860G, then were going well.

I would use it. I think a browser would also be good. A fx-browser. But then again it would have to be able to interpret the HTML coding and convert it.
But i think it would be kool. Who knows, multiplayer gaming over the internet. UCPF is the only website/forum with the ability to do it. Send variables to each other over the internet. Imagine, Solitaire over the internet XD.

A full blown HTML browser would be to great of a project to do for a graphing calculator. Just something like checking out email on your calculator would be nice, so you can feel proud to be an owner of a calculator with internet capabilities. :cool: The problem though, how many of you guys still have an external serial modem?

I dont. But what about the connecting with computer capabilies of rev-fx. You could create a program that connects to the internet by plugging it into the computer. But then again you could just use the comp if your that close.

We can probably do calc-to-calc gaming over the internet already. You can connect your calculator's serial port to your computer's serial port (you can try searching on the web, there's gotta be some free ones out there). You would then need a serial (RS232) to TCP/IP converter. Your PC will take the data from your calculator and send it across the internet. Someone else would connect to your computer and that will allow you to play Rock, Paper, Scissors (as that is the only game I know with serial multi-player capabilities) with someone else across the world on your calculator. You can try it if you get a serial cable for your calculator.
