I need something that emulates the icons of the calculator , basically alowng me to enter the correct menu to reset my calculator . This can't be done in Basic though so my only solution is an add in . Has anyone made such a thing . It is very important otherwise I will fail my assignement , way too much theory to learn

If you will accept an addin, which is stored in the storage memories, why not just backup all your notes to the storage memories. I believe the reset only clears out the user memory, not the storage memory.

In fact, a button-reset does not destroy memory contents.
A reset of the storage memories via the system menu reset option deletes all storage memory contents except the add-ins.
A reset of the add-in&storage memories via the system menu reset option deletes all storage memory including the add-ins.

If I got ben_i right, he wants to hinder some bloke from destroying the contents of his calcs memories, because he might be in a situation where it is not possible to restore this destroyed important information just in time (I heard of some teachers doing such nasty things).

I think it would be possible to write an add-in-hull which looks like the main-menu and behaves like the main menu (except of the reset-part, of course).
This way is not reset-button-proof, though. After a rear-button-reset the original main menu would reappear.
To make your data reset-button-proof, too, would require an OS mod, which would be quite a stunt (but not impossible).

But do you really want it? Possibly you would provoke the FX-9860G to be banned from schools little by little, if such a toy spreads.

Given the fact that some calculators can be programmed is a reason for such "features" to surface sooner or later so i find it a rather interresting question to begin with just as interresting as the many ways a student will cheat at any given exam. And students will find faster and probaly more effective ways of cheating than programming a calculator....

The main-menu-hull-thing is very intriguing. I will program it just for fun.
Whether it occurs in the download area someday exceptionally depends on kucalcs decision, though.

I just dropped the first version of the data protection utility HULL into the download area. ;)

oh come on guys this clearly has very little use other than blatantly cheating in examinations and the like! That is surely not what you're meant to use a calculator for!

Although you can tell people it's bad, they'll still do it. This can apply to almost anything.

OK! I have to admit. Here the essential source code.

if (teacher==SMART){
HULL=busted;
}else{
HULL=succeeded;
};

So you got me at last!
HULL is part of the world wide quality assurance program

"smart teachers for a better education"

powered by George Bush and Vladimir Putin (the Clever-Gang).

@George, @Vladimir! Sorry, guys. I had to reveal the secret. They tortured me.

---

In other words: HULL is not smart-teacher-proof. They have their chance.

noted,
You and I and all calculator aware geeks/technicians/teachers will see through this a mile off, HOWEVER...
In exams in the uk (where I have experience of), the exam rules are read out and then equipment checked by invigilators and exams officers, who in the main have no idea about this kind of stuff, often they are just retired people hired in on a casual basis.

Not all teachers are calculator geeks though, my mother who is a chemistry teacher at high level definitely wouldn't see through a trick like this.
Just because you CAN do something, and that people will do it anyway, doesn't mean you have to encourage it. Anyway, never mind, rant over.

Wow this program is amazing... You have some skills there SimLo . Thank you so much for doing this , I probably will not need my notes if I knuckle down for the next few weeks but it is reassuring to know I can use them . My only suggestion would be to expand the menus a little , and maybe even have a fully functioning Run mode . Though I am sure that would be impossible to code. Thanks again :)

Try to see it this way. There are two possible options to deal with tools which contain a more or less evil potential:

1. You can use it in secrecy and keep it secret as long as possible to gain maximum unearnt benefits. Then maybe you are one of the bad guys. Although sometimes I have the notion this is a worldwidespread behaviour, without being penalized at all.

2. Or you can discuss it in public and enable everyone who cares to develop countermeasures and be prepared. Sun Tzu said: If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. Thus: information is the key, which is given here deliberately. Following this way, f. i., some programmers who know how to construct computer-viruses use their knowledge to construct appropriate defence.

Seriously. This forum is public. Isn't it obvious which way is chosen in this case?

By the way. You are right. A calculator is not meant to do such things with. But did you know FX-9860G is not actually a calculator? I own two of them and use neither as such.

It is a powerful low cost SH-3 risc processor developing system. Or a versatile serial data-logger. Or a programmable controller for nearly every device which can be accessed using a serial interface.

And such a programmable thing has to be programmed until you're blue in the face. That's the way of the programmer.

No, this program will absolutely not run on the fx-9750. Only BASIC progs can run on a fx-9750g.

Hey guys what up, only 15 years later I would ask if somebody knew , where I could find such a program for a Fx-CG50. It’s a digital calculator so I don’t think it’s so easy to program it my self (I’m 11. Grate /„Abitur“ ). I have a math exam in 3 weeks and I can’t make it without this . I know I could study but I’m not really a math guy ;)

It actually shouldn't be that hard to make one, depending on what your teacher does to reset your calculator. If they only check, whether your calculator shows "Reset complete", you can just make a screenshot of that. But remember that that is not allowed and you will get into big trouble if your teacher finds out, so I strongly advise you against doing that. But don't you get a list of all formulas needed? How would your calculator help more than that?
A cleverer approach would be to create a fake system options that do exactly the same as the normal system options, except for the reset option.
To go a bit further, it could fake the whole main menu, when selecting an application, it would send you to the real application, but wehen selecting the settings, it sends you to the fake settings.
