    casio fx 1.0 plus

Ive had a casio fx 1.0 plus for a couple of years now (3/4?) and had successfully modded it to use the CAS program. however i haven't used it in a while, about 1 year, and to my surprise one horizontal line of keys not longer works! the line starting with "Ab/c"and ending with "->" does not accept any key presses. all other keys work fine but any key on the "Ab/c" line dont work. This is detrimental to my calculators use since the "(" , ")" , and "->" keys are located there!

i have tried resetting the system components using the commands under "system -> reset" but it has not helped.

years ago i know there was alot of activity with fx program development but i havent really kept up to date with the "scene". I believe there was a program called "touche" (sp) that could detect key presses. so before i go and open up the calc and check for a broken/loose pin is there a way for me to test if its a software/firmware error? i have a link cable so i was thinking if i could download a program to try and see if the key connection is broken or just the software

PS: im a little rusty about which programs were useful tools for transferring to/debuging/hacking the calc. This is the only site i really remember so if someone could point me in the right direction for a tutorial or site of some sort that is slightly up to date with the current state of things would be great.

thanks!

Hi there, i would suggest that you remove the batteries from the machine for 2 minutes, then press the physical reset button, with no batteries inserted. Then put a new set of batteries into the calculator and again press the reset button. I do not actually own this calc so my knowledge is limited.

Let me know if this helps

when you say remove the batteries do you mean the main batteries (4 AA), the backup battery (small circular one) or both?

thanks

I would say both, just for added security.

i tried just removing the main batteries and that didnt fix it. now i removed both batteries and will give it a few hours and try again!

also, while the batteries were out i pressed the reset button since that should clear out any extra juice in the capacitors

does anyone know the name of that add-in program that lets you read in key presses from the calculator. i cant remember and i think it would be realyl useful!

I'm afraid it actually needs repair. This is common upon AFX's that have not been in use for a while. The same thing happened to my AFX. I wouldn't be surprised if you opened up your AFX and found corrosion and powder on the PCB traces.

Did you check for any dirt? Try looking under the rubber keypad.
