  • Calculators:
    Casio CFX-9850GB PLUS

Posted 20 November 2009 - 08:02 PM

I am an Electrical Engineering student that has sung the praises of the CFX-9850GB Plus to my fellow classmates, who use mostly TI-86 or TI-89 graphing calcs. However, I have encountered a problem regarding Vector & Phasor calculations as they pertain to AC sine waves. More specifically, the sum of (Z) impedance vectors. These equations have complex numbers that represent magnitude & angle direction (in polar form). The TI models have a shift keystroke that represent (angle) when performing the keystrokes necessary for the calculation. For example: (50 ohms(angle)0degrees)+(31.8(angle)-90degrees)+(15.7(angle)90degrees)=(Z)total or impedance total. The answer being 52.5 ohms (angle)-17degrees. My question is whether the CFX-9850GB Plus has the capability to perform the calculation in this form. I've have researched the manual meticulously, and am not sure if I'm looking in the right direction regarding funtion operations. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
By the way, on the TI, the (angle) symbol is the shift keystroke for the COMMA. There is no representation on the Casio. I'm also aware that the calculations can be done with complex numbers in RECTANGULAR form, but the conversion process is VERY TEDIOUS, TIME CONSUMING, and pretty much a pain in the ass...not worth it! Long story short...I should have kept my mouth shut regarding the capabilities of this calculator, assuming it can't be done of course. However, I believe that given all the funtionality, and capability of this model, that I'm overlooking how to do it, or just don't know. Please HELP....thanks so much, it's really appreciated!
