Hi all
I recently purchased a fx-9750GII specifically for the ability (I Hoped) to store some complex Chemistry formulas. Is this possible? I cant figure out from the manual if this can be done and how? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks so much

Oh for example one of my calculations for a half life equation would be t = ln2 / k Is this possible?

I don't quite understand... you want to save it for reference (like a note) and refer to it, or do you want to write a program that allows you to input a number for each letter, then give you the answer.

If you want to save it for reference, there are 2 ways: you can either store it in a BASIC file, or upgrade your fx-9750 to an fx-9860 and take notes with e-activities or EDIT.

The note would work thanks. Just curious though is there any way to save the formula like you said and just input the values and let the Calculator solve? Thanks

That would require a basic BASIC program that would look like this (for t=ln2/k):
"If unknown type 'U'"
0.0199->U
? -> t
? -> k
U=t => ln2/k -> t
U=k => t * ln2 -> k

You can do this for simple equations.

Probably someone is going to tell me that you can just use the SolveN function, but I don't know how to use it. (Maybe someone could explain it to me). ;)

P.S. If you are worried about upgrading your 9750 (I know, the word "hack" sounds menacing), I felt the same way. But if you think about it, if you back up your ROM image first, you don't have to worry because you can always downgrade if it doesn't work. (and the chances of that are almost zilch ;))

Function memory is the key: <span class=OPTN' /> / <span class=F6' /> / <span class=F6' /> / <span class=F3' />

How does it solve for the variable?

All I can get it to do is give me the equation, but the calc wont actually solve for a variable.

Also, you can only store to f-mem in linear mode.

Thanks for the advice. I am no stranger to hacking my electronics I have done it with many so I definitely am willing to try it on a calculator. Just a few questions though..

Do I only need a usb cable or do I need the PC connectivity pack from Casio? Just unsure how the calculator communicates with the PC.

You only need a usb cable. I use a cable that goes to my canon digital camera. any one will work, as long as it fits ;).

The hack works great and file sharing has a lot of good add-ins that you can use.

Is there any documentation detailing the update process? I downloaded the file 2_01_0200.fls
How does this get sent to the calculator?

Thanks

I don't quite understand... you want to save it for reference (like a note) and refer to it, or do you want to write a program that allows you to input a number for each letter, then give you the answer.

If you want to save it for reference, there are 2 ways: you can either store it in a BASIC file, or upgrade your fx-9750 to an fx-9860 and take notes with e-activities or EDIT.

Well I updated the Calculator. Went pretty easily thanks a lot! Can you point me in the right direction now to take advantage of the new and improved calculator. Where did you say I can input the formulas I would like to save? What add in programs can I put on the calc and where can I find them?

Thanks again!

Text Editor for fx.
EDIT V1.51

Also, on the main menu:

E-act (e-activities):
Create a new e-activity( <span class=F2' /> ), then press <span class=F2' /> again.

[dDOWN] [dDOWN] [dDOWN] [dDOWN] [dDOWN] [dDOWN] [dDOWN] [dDOWN] [dDOWN] [dDOWN] [dDOWN] (notes)

<span class=EXE' /> <span class=EXE' /> (edit notes strip)
Now type your formulas as you would in run-mat mode.

To get out of notes pres <span class=Shift' />+ [->]

Tip:

I think that right after you upgrade, you have to press (in run-mat mode):

<span class=Shift' />+<span class=MENU' />

then, <span class=F1' />

to use the natural input function

What other electronics have you hacked? Just curious.

Having trouble finding natural input mode. I have a cheap Casio that has the natural input. Now that the hack has been installed, does anyone know how to activate the natural input function?

go to setup in run-mat and change input/output to "math" (F1)

Hi, yes there is!

You add the fomula in the graph section. then when you go to the equation solver mode, you simply RCL the fomula and pres EXE on the variable you want solved.

It would have been really neat if they CASIO had a feature where you could save off the equations and give them NAMES. My 20yr old SHARP EL-5120 had this facility.

I use this feauture for my job as a road designer all the time. You need to solve various formula quickly by changing variables.
