Hello
Went to the libary yesterday to study and my Prizm would not start so I went and bought new batteries and noting but the new batteries got super hot.
I bought it from USA (Ebay) and I live in Sweden so I don't know if I can send it in to Casio here in Sweden or if I need to send it to the US?
Is there anything I can do or is it try to talk to Casio or throw it in the trash?

Dont throw it away :)

I am not trying to insult you by asking this, just checking: Are your batteries in the right way? :)

If thats not the problem, you might want to try reinstalling the OS.

Go to this page and "OS update to version 1.03". Click "accept", and click the checkbox that says "OS Update V.1.03" under "FX-CG series". Click "next" and then download the file.

I am assuming that you use windows. Double click on the installer file that you have downloaded. Follow the directions. This should reinstall your OS. ;)

But sense the calc wont start I can't reinstall the OS. It wants me to go in to settings and select OS update on the calc before I flash. I tried anyway but it just says that the update failed.

Try doing this to get into OS Update mode:

The primary emergency OS update can be triggered by simultaneously holding down <span class=F2' /> , <span class=4' /> and [AC-ON] while pressing the RESTART-button.
Release every button. The calc should show a blank display now. Finally press <span class=9' /> and <span class=×' /> consecutively.

EDIT: Try this too:

Press <span class=OPTN' /> + <span class=EXP' /> + [AC/on] and the RESTART button
Release the RESTART button and wait until the screen becomes white
Now release the remaining three keys
Press the <span class=MENU' /> key to show all available options

and this:

Press <span class=OPTN' /> + <span class=EXP' /> + [AC/on] to turn on your calculator
When the pop-up window appears, press the <span class=F1' /> key
And confirm deleting all data by pressing the <span class=9' /> key

None of the combos work, the calc is still dead :(

You can probably send it to casio. I'd call them first to see where to send it. They should replace it. ;)

And welcome to the forums!

I don't know if buying an nspire is a good idea.

Also, casio will probably refund the calc since it was a hardware defect, regardless of whether you tampered with it or not.

Just ask them, it cant hurt! :)

Why isn't the Nspire cx a good choose?
I don't need the cas version sense I will probably never use those functions after the course I take now and theres just a few math problems in my book where they recommend a cas calc.

So if I don't get a new Prizm form Casio I will have to choose between the fx-CG 20 and the Texas Nspire CX non cas.

Can you give me pros and cons for both calcs? :)
Sense this is a Casio forum I will ask at a Ti forum aswell :)

But from what I have read.
Casio:
Pros: Easy to use and understand, bigger screen? Better support from the community?
Cons: If I don't get a new one thats a con in my eyes.

Texas:
Pros: Better math capabilities? (My Prizm has done everything I needed it to do and more exept for the cas ^^)
Cons: Harder to use (Love Casios menu system), smaller screen? Non replaceble batteries?

Also, the Nspire series doesn't support unsigned native code at all, and all attempts to enable it have been blocked.

I like the Prizm but I can get a Nspire CX CAS for just $10 more (the non cas version is cheeper then the Prizm). Sense Casios support is so slow im thinking of getting a Ti just for that reason and you can't reach Casio over the phone here in Sweden from what I can see.
I need to order a new calc so I can get it this week couse it takes to long to solve some things for hand when it takes 4 seconds to do it on the calc. :) (Need a new calc before friday).

I have thought about if it's worth the money to buy a cas calc and sense im not going to use the cas function after this course it would be a waste of money to buy a new calc. So if they can't fix it i will probably buy a new prizm witch is kind of a biggi sense it feels like waste of money.
