I think it depends on what your professors would also recommend since they are likely to know most about the calculators that they use and any other help can be found on these forums. Personally i would say the Casio seeing as the Ti may be banned due to the algebraic differentiation and integration programmes.

It depends on what you want to do :
The Ti89 is more powerful than the fx9860gII ( CAS, diff equa ...) but you can put some add ins on your fx9860gII such as jeux casio's CAS or vanhoa's 3d grapher to make it also very powerful !
It depends on what you are doing in class and if you want to study Math later

thanks guys for the fast replies :)
the graphic calculators are rarely found at my university " in egypt " so even my professors might not know which to recommend , they can even ban both from exams by the way :D xD but i need one to help me in my studying even if i cannot take it to the exams,
i'm not a fan of mathematics , but in the electrical engineering i need sometimes to solve "equations, matrix, inverses , integration etc ..."
i also dunno how to upgrade firmwares or add such powerful things to the calculator ..
so after telling you my story which one do you recommend now :D

Ti 89 = fx9860gII

you can upgrade your fx9860gII putting add ins on it

But at the beginning, the Ti is more powerful than the fx9860gII without add ins

Ti 89 = fx9860gII

Well, even with addins, the fx9860 is still slightly inferior as far as software goes to the ti-89.

If you want a powerful graphing calculator, I would definitely recommend the Classpad.

Classpad > TI-89

Oh, yes, there definitely are. The TI-68k series was a very popular programming platform. ;)

Comparing the TI-89 to the FX-9860GII is not really fair.

The TI-89 was not meant to be allowed on high school tests, whereas the FX-9860GII was. So, as a result, the 9860 does not have a built-in CAS, nor many other advanced math tools. That said, there are some excellent third party math tools available. On the other hand, the TI-89 has a pretty good built in CAS and lots of advanced math functions. If you want CAS functions, etc., then the Classpad is the calculator you would want. The Classpad has a more powerful CAS than the TI-89, a faster processor, and a stylus touch screen.

If it is available to you, the Classpad is the best deal. If not, and you definitely need the CAS function, the TI-89 may be the best way to go, if you want that functionality right out of the box. Otherwise, the fx-9860GII is good.

tl;dr
Get a Classpad if you can.
