So I've acquired an "fx-9860gii USB Power Graphic", and as always first thing to do is update the OS to the latest version. Well silly me I thought "I'll download the most recent version for fx-9860gii, that's the exact model number, right?" Oh no. I get "unsupported model". Takes me quite a lot more digging to discover that there are at least half a dozen different 'versions' of this model, some of which take the latest software, some of which top out at an older version (2.04). Problem solved (sort of) but to me this seems dumb - it's worse than cars (imagine "Ford Mondeo GTi but with the 2.4 diesel engine and only if it's a 1990 model or later with the heated seat pack" - this is why I don't buy parts for my car myself either).

Caveat emptor!
