Hi everone!

Does anyone know the formula that Casio FX-9860 G (or newer models) use for finding the outliers? I am talking about the ones that you can show when drawing box plot in the STAT menu. 

The default formula that I use in IB is that an outlier is x:     Q3+1.5IQR < x < Q1-1.5IQR . But there are other defitions out there, such as everything that is more than 3 sigma away. However, no CASIO manual I have seen tells which one is used in the calculator.

I think the formula you wrote is the one Casio uses. If you try with List 1 = {3, 4, 4, 4, 4, 5, 5, 5, 5, 6, 6, 2.4}, you get Q1=4, Med=4.5 , Q3=5, IQR=1. Then the outliers are: x<2.5 x>6.5. When you change the value 2.4 to 2.5 in the list it does not show it as an outlier. You can try changing the 6 for 6.5 and then for 6.6 and notice that the 6.6 takes it as an outlier.
