what if someone were to write a small computer program that will do the replacement for you, turning each greek character into the character of your choice. would that be helpfull?

Use your imagination :P
One time i wrote a diagram in a casiobasic file, i do something like that:
!------! !-----! A=V. source
! A !------! B ! B=Op. Amp.
!____! !-----!
Maybe you can make with diagrams like this (and with a lot of imagination) the mat characters that you need.
!------! *A=Sum
! 00 ! *upper limit: infinite
! A ! *lower limit: zero
!_0__!
Hope this help you, or someone made the add-in.

Well do you know TOUCHE? There is a Formulas part in it, where you can had your own and you can use all the characters displayed in "2: ASCII value". That is not so easy to add formulas, you have to edit the T_TEXT.DAT file.

For example to print a minus alpha you have to put two characters 0xF6(246) followed by 0xA1(161).

You have to use a text editor to change T_TEXT.DAT (you can only do that on your PC).

To print the character 246 hold down ALT and press 2 4 6 on your num pad and release ALT.

Read the doc of TOUCHE.

good luck.

i seem to remember being able to display the extended character sets by altering the .cat files, something like the token '/F6DB' would be used for the corresponding character.

i would test this myself before i posted but i have no way to do so, sorry. this also relies on work i did a couple years ago and may not even be correct but try it out and see what happens.
