Hi Everyone!

I've bought a 9860GII SD today. Added some games ( like Wolfenstein) but I can't run anything. The first logo shown up or nothing happened, then the calculator crashed. Only hardware reset could bring back to life. Why? Only one of 10 apps worked ( unit converter) My OS version is 02.02.0201 Is it too fresh for the apps?

Thx,
DnP

(sry for my english :) )

Casio recently upgraded the hardware on the fx-9860 to a SH4 processor, and not a SH3. Since many older apps are built for the SH3 processor, they will not work correctly on your SH4. Make sure that the app was released in recent years, or bug the author to release an update.

Below the screen, does it say "USB Power Graphic" or does it say "USB Power Graphic 2"?

Also, if you mean that after running an addin, your calculator resets, almost all 9860 programs that use grayscale reset the calculator after being used.

Hi!

There is USB Power Graphic 2. What's the difference? CPU type?

And the calculator crashes before anything hapens. Maybe clear screen, or the apps intro screen is visible, but nothing else. No response. Allways had to be hard resetted :(

Yes, it has a different CPU. Instead of the SH-3, it has the SH-4. This causes many addins not to work.

I'm not sure. I am not very good when it comes to CPU's....

Maybe emulating the old CPU?

You can ask cfxm or SimonLothar, they know more about this than I do. ;)

The sh4 is backwards-compatible with the sh3, however, the OS is not. You'd need to emulate all the old syscalls to do it.

I thought only two keyboard syscalls are different. Is it so? If yes, the add-in can be updated by the developer (or anyone having the source) without much effort.

Hm, well I thought the main incompatibilities would come from the new OS taking advantage of new features of the sh4 and breaking compatibility with old programs which act as though the old OS is being used.

Well the PDF file called "SDK Announcement" in casio's download site only mentions this as the difference. My only source is that. Do you know more about this? Is it discussed somewhere?

btw let's be super-accurate and call the new CPU correctly SH-4a.

Is discussed in casio-scene (en) and planet-casio (fr), There are some more incompatibilities in addresses, etc...
