you may buy some 2.5 mm white leds wire them together and clue them at the edge of the display (the screws are very small: 2mm or 1.5mm)

if you find out the power line (cummonly an line that is gnd if switched on and n/c if turned off). then you connect the leds with this line or you attach an external switch and connect the leds directly to the battery contacts.

NOTE: YOU WILL LOSE YOUR GARANTEE IF YOU OPEN THE CLASSPAD!!!

I meant BACKLIGHT. Like PV backlight. By some revers engineering in PV I would add BACKLIGHT to my CP B)

If you're brave, and know your way around with a soddering iron
you can try it yourself . Here are some links to other calculators/handhelds that people have added backlights for...

Basic example using a TI.
http://richfiles.sol.../Backlight.html
These plans are pretty general, which means they could be easily be applied to a Casio calculator. Of course it also means you need to figure out the specific stuff yourself.

 HP 200LX palmtop (made ~1995, long since discontinued)
http://www.daniel-he...klight/install/
This web page applies to the HP 200LX, but again it could be applied to the Casio ClassPad. This web page has some really good pictures illustrations, a must read if you plan on trying this.

General Kit
http://www.backlight4you.com/
This company that offers a generic backlighting kit (the one used in the HP 200LX example above). They pretty much just sell you the parts.

You could buy a ClassPad RM, which has an external LCD for an overhead display. You can then use one of these light boxes to see it clearly.

Taken literally, this would be a backlight :lol2:

what is it for??

A backlight?.... it is an illuminated display. The LCD on the ClassPad doesn't have the best contrast. A blacklight is a series of LEDs (light emitting diodes) that shines light from behind the display.

Check out an example below to see what a difference it makes...
