Hi there!
As I heard that it is possible to get sound out of the AFX, I bought myself an
adapter to connect my speakers to the calc. I wrote a simple library that supports 14 different tones. But I may get more some (sth. arround 20).
You just give the tone (1-14) and the length (10 = ~ 2 sec). And it works!
But there is a restriction: It seems as if you can only use it with speakers
that are connected to a 220V power source. I tried my headset and there
the tones were nearly not noticable.
But there is sth. interresting: If you send a file using sysexplorer, there are
many different sound, but if i send 255 different chars one after another
at the same speed the sound is constant. How could this happen??
For those that are interested in the lib, send a PM or Mail to me and I'll
send you the lib.
For those that want the adapter there is only one shop I found that supplys
these addapters. But it only send in Germany:
www.smm.de -> Search for article number 2637685
Price: 4,99? + 4,30? Package
Sound on the AFX!

What kind of adapter is needed exactly? Is there any way to build one?
And just as a thought, the reason perhaps about sending the files with sysexplore and each individual characters at the same speed probably has something to do with the packets from the file being sent via sysexplorer may have different data encoded in it for reassembling the info on the other side of the connection, but single characters can probably be sent in one packet. The different tones might very well be the different protocols and have little to do with the actual info. Just a thought. Is there any patterns in the sounds heard as the file is sent?

He is referring to an adapter which enables you to plug in your speakers with a 3,5mm connector into the plug of the calc, which is 2,5mm.

I doubt it can only be found in that one shop or online dealer.

I didn't say that it's the only shop that has this adapter
but the only I've found.
I searched conrad electronics and they didn't have one.
I searched Kabelparadies.de and they didn't have one.
I searched the German web using google and found nothing.
I visited our local electronics shop and they had(!) one, but it didn't
have a wire and therefore the plug didn't fit in the calculator.
Of course you can build one yourself. The only things you need is
a 2.5mm stereo plug, a 3.5mm stereo plug and a simple cable with wires in it.
Just connect tip->tip etc.
Thats it.
What do you mean by pattern?? do you me
sth. like high / low / low / high / low / low / high...
then no!
but the only I've found.

I just mean if you send the same file twice using the sysexplorer, does it make the same sounds twice?

Yes it does! It's (or at least seems to be) exactly the same noice.

Might be worth the effort to figure out exactly what is being sent through sysexplorer (like what is added to each packet or what protocols sysexplorer follows for transmitting), it might lead to more tones than what you already have. To be honest though, I'm not sure how you would go about doing that. But based off what you said, I would guess that the tones are based off of more HOW the data is sent rather than what character is sent. Let me know what you come up with though, if anything, might be fun to have some midi song files on my calc for some fun

That would make the TI users drool in envy.
