Just a suggestion. Why not start a wiki where we can put tutorials, tips and tricks, calculator modding and stuff like that. It feels a bit misplaced to keep things like this in a forum, don't you think?
It is my humble opinion that discussions should be kept in a forum and information, walkthroughs and such things are better suited for a wiki (for quick growth) or a separate static webpage (though I would rather recommend a wiki here).
You could keep a link to it in the forum nav-bar at the top of the UCF-page.
I'm running PM-Wiki myself (for a amateur rocketry community) and it works galantly (though login issues tend to be a bit messy). There is a good site for comparison between different wikis here:

Edit: I know there might be a naming issue. UCF Wiki sounds weird. So why not UCW (Universal Casio Wiki)?

yep it could be interesting, I would use PhpWiki, we can use flat files (no DB needed) and it has a lot of feature.

Or maybe I will create our own wiki system, I'm not sure yet...

Hmm.. pmWiki doesn't use a database either and AFAIK, it's the most versatile wiki and it works right out of the box. I run my own wiki which is a pmWiki. You can also use pmWiki as a Casio program repository or File Share: http://www.pmwiki.or...ook/UploadTypes

I have tried phpWiki and I just couldn't get it to work on my system (Ubuntu), it was just too much tweaking needed to make it work. Also, I found it to be too porly documented and supported.

I know it's fun to develop things from scratch, but IMO there are enough of Wikis out there to choose from. Why reinvent the wheel?

There are 2 possibilities:

1) We write our own WIKI system, what would rid us of spam bots but could take ages or even never get finished (like the front page )

2) We take an existing wiki. HOWEVER, then we need some VERRY active members that would dedicate lots of time to undo actions by spam bots and to clean the wiki of crap and do proof reading.


I could even donate part of my webserver if you need it. It runs MySQL and PHP4 (at least the last time I updated it )

But I would really like to see some members that would really look over there every day and watch for spam bots. they were the reason I had to take my wiki (MediaWiki) down, because I just had no time to cope with the spam.

Call me naive, but wouldn't a login system solve the spambot problem?

But first we need to know WHO will contribute to the wiki.

If I proposed to make our own wikki it's because a big part of the job is already done, all admins can add/edit pages to the main web-site so it would just mean to extend the looging system to members and simplify some things... It's not that difficult.

Sure that's fine with me.
As for what the contribution concerns, I think people will automatically find which pages they want to contribute to. It could be one person, or it could be a dozen, but that doesn't matter does it? I have a wiki on my own server for a rocketry society and about 99% of it has been contributed by myself, but then it is mostly just read by myself I reckon. The point being, the more the interrest in the contents of a wiki, the more people will contribute.

Actually I like this Idea very, much.
You see, the first thing I felt when I was first looking for "resources" for my brand new 9860, was that there was no centralized site, a kind of mother site with content and information, there was only a forum which spoted itself out.
It was this forum by the way...
Thing is that, we are almost in the knowledge age, not the information age, and people today are no longer expected to dig for information, and tuly, a forum spooks people out...
www.ticalc.org for example, has plenty of informative articles, news section, information about all calcs, a forum too....
Everything clear and easy to achieve.
The very oficial site from Ti is a very better one than the casio educatio's, they have lots of software, well designed Interface, etc.

It is true that there are some good french site with tons of information, however, most people can't speak french.

I think that if we provided the general public with more information, in plain english, with an easy to search site, our numbers would prolifer.(Have you ever wondered how many people have a graphing calc and do not do anything with it other than aritmetic calcs?? in my school that's about 800 people)
We must create a wiki, in which somethings are to be made clear to noobs
We could start by designing the site tree....
We should have a section to each difrent calc.

I volunteer for the 9850/9950 and for the 9700 to some degree (depending on how much I can remember, since I sold that one a long time ago).
