Hi!

I'm beginning to read advanced mathematics at a Swedish collage after x-mus. I recently bought a CFX 9850 GB from a friend for a little more than $40 (350 sek).

What useful functions do I get if i upgrade? Can the CFX 9850GB compare to Ti-84 plus and Ti-89? Can FX 9860G?
Is it worth the extra money to get the SD-model? For portability are the slim version as good as the other models?

Edit: Just called and asked the head of the course, and he told me that the Casio 9850GB should be more than enough, so the question chances to the portability-question, worth investing in a 9860 slim, or if the TI-36x are enough for easier calculations..

Thanks in advance :)

/Dava

Hey Dava, I see that you have now created an account. I can now officially say welcome to the UCF! :D

Out of all the calculators you mentioned, the TI-89 is the most powerful. The fx-9860 would be the most powerful non-CAS calculator.

What type of math are you doing in your math class? A CFX-9850 may be enough.

I don't really know yet, I'm studying to be a upper grade (Swedish Gymnasium) math-teacher. All I know i s that it will be far more advanced than all previous math I'v ever done;)

I have been very fond of the Casio FX 9860G's impressing functions, especially the natural input display! Is that a function i can achieve through external programs on the 9850?

And whats the big different between the 9860G SD and the slim version?

What's your highest level of math education and what type of stuff where in there?

As for the fx-9860 SD and the fx-9860 Slim, the fx-9860SD is exactly the same as the regular fx-9860G, but with a 1GB card for storing extra stuff. The fx-9860 has all the same features as the regular fx-9860G, but is in a more compact form with a built in help system and LCD backlight (so you can see in the dark).
