I got my AFX2 back from the Casio Repair Center today (35 days after I sent it off). As you may remember a line from the display was missing. Its all fixed now. The only thing that bothers me however is that the calc I sent off had ROM 1.02 and the one I got back has ROM 1.00. What finctionality have I lost? Is it worth griping to Casio? If it is a lot better that I have 1.02 and they wont do anything about it is there any way to load it on to my calculator?

No, we get the "Unexpected Extra" here in the US too. What is the unexpected extra anyway? An unexpected extra way to shaft you? I forgot to mention, when I turned the calc on it said I have a low back up battery. It didnt come with the AAA's either. Geeze. I dont want to start a riot but when I got my TI-89 repaired it came with AAA's in it and the back up battery it came with is still kicking. Their customer service surpassed Casio's in every way I can think of. Wouldnt you think the "Unexpected Extra" would cover things like batteries?

To AlephMobius: Maybe give them a simple calculator. They will probably give back some other. It it will be better - cool.

And in Poland we have very friendly customer support people in Casio's distributor company. And sometimes they have a big knowledge about details I'm asking.

hehe,
when I wrote to my distributor about some PC-calc connection problems, they answered me on the next day.
It was a woman, which told she is graphical calculator specialist and told about problems with cables and their compatibilities.
She knew what she was talking about.
And she told me actual ClassPad price in Poland.

I am not satisfied with the service that those of casio have given me by email aqui in mexico. The only good thing is when i made a question to them about the classpad, they answer me quickly and accurate. Indeed, the classpad will be available in Mexico City in octuber, and it will cost about $260 or 270 US dollars

For my knowledge 1.02 and 1.00 have no differencies, it was just that 1.01 was buggy so they downgraded it back to 1.02 (and maybe changed some stuff, not sure)

That's good to know. Can anyone confirm this?

There is a difference.
The reception of drive is much slower on 1.00 than on 1.02. (tested on french version "G100 Rom1.00")

I've heard that 1.01 version differs in speed to other versions. Someone said that it influences on grayscale.

BTW: I would be very angry if someone changed my calc to another  (of course the older one - I wouldn't protest if someone gave me ClassPad ).

I suppose I will call them tommorow. One good thing is that it came with a link port plug. I lost mine from the origional calc. Then I payed a guy at school some outgrageous amount (3 or 5 USD) for the one on his FX-7400. I dont think I even made it home from school before I lost that one. :)

arg... you guys wont believe this (or mabey you will): I called casio back, again, this time I talked to a diffrent person and the guy I've been working with and learned that they still hadn't found out what a classpad is (this has been over a week)! ) so that they could see they made such a product. anyway, now that they know what it is they say that it will take about 2 days to get an answer. ;)

Man, that is crazy. I just got off the phone with a guy from Casio and he said if I send it in and explain the problem they should fix it, no charge. Do you think it would be wrong to keep the link plug in this one for my TI-89? I mean they did keep the AAA's I sent in with the old calc. Anyways, Last time I sent the calc in it took over a month to fix it. Is it possible to upload 1.02 to the calc myself?

I think they gave you a new calc, I mean what normal user would notice? sure, keep the plug, though I've been missing mine for years (even my classpads is gone) and no harm has come to them. besides, they probably cost casio like $.01 to make.

here in australia it took them 5 weeks to give me my CFX back to me... minus the batteries.

but they didn't fix it... and they charged $70!!!

the only good thing i can say about them is while they were "looking after it for me" they gave me a spare one to use

Nah, I can just look at it and see it's a bit worn. Doesnt it make sense to refurbish them?

>and no harm has come to them

I had to send my TI-89 in to have the link port repaired. I have heard of other people having this problem. It must be relatively common because they fixed it at no charge a year and a half after the warranty expired.

Anyone know how to transfer 1.02 to the calc? I really dont want to go another month without having my calc :(

Ouch, I had to return my new Algebra FX 2.0 a while ago all of the way to England (I think) and they just replaced mine. Took 2 weeks or so, but it came back brand new....:)

Welcome to the UCF mindwaves1, what was the problem with your calc.?

It was working fine for 2 weeks or so, then it just would not turn on no matter what I did with it. The batteries were brand new also.

no way to upgrade ROM (stands for read only memory, IC: OKI r53v320 mask rom or compatible (this product is discontinued now)). only possibility is to replace the chip (or the whole control module, which holds all memories, cpu and oscillator)
