eh..

why?

and.. how??

the only way to replace the OS in the CFX would be by writing a new ROM .. not many ppl can take advantage of that.. ;)

good luck anyway

that would be great, as the CFX is getting a bit outdated. If only i had a AFX....

buy a fx 1.0+! This is usually allowed where the AFX isn't

and btw. it is impossible to write a OS for the CFX. THe few that exist are slow or crap.
I wrote a window based os for the CFX myself (but a silly dude deleted it).
But only the engine took ~15KB and was only able to make menus, windows & text.
No buttons and the scrollbars weren't connected to the interface.

It looked good though. I could kill they guy!

hmm, alot of space for an OS (in calc terms) would it be possible to repalce the actuall OS on the AFX calc, rather than a seperate prog that needs to be run at start up?

If you were expecially savy could you put a new OS on a chip and solder that in place of the current ROM chip? With the AFX you can just transfer it as a new ROM update, ohh wait the AFX is not upgradable . . . long live TI and HP.

Doesn't the autoexec.bat file on the AFX work like it does on a computer? In that case, what would be stopping someone from rewriting it to run a program from flash memory after the memory has been initialized?

Because the flash segment where is stored autoexec.bat and config.sys seems to be "protected": each time you turn on the calc this flash segment is compared to the copy in the ROM and if any byte is different it is replaced by the original... We didn't find how to override this process yet.

Well <{GNULINUX}> 4 afx is suspendet.
I'm working on replacing DOS in the ram but not on the ROM/Flash.

The Drive A is not changeable (autoexec.bat) since it is compared to a copy in ROM.

I'm quite sure that i'm not able to finish the Project for the Competition.
If I don'T what do you want me to do? Should I continue <{GNULINUX}> or the Project.

The project is a complex game written in ASM.
I want to OpenSource it as soon as it is finished, but if you decide you want
<{GNULINUX}> more I'd openSource it with the end of the contest and continue on
working with <{GNULINUX}>.

The games engine is quite far. Some systems don't yet work
and i would connect some conditions to the OpnSourcing.

*All published versions have to be approved by me.
*The sourcecode must be available to all
*members that want develop on it.
*Never use C code.
*Never use interrupt calls.
*Use no libs (except cmm in the dev state but not later)
*Comment the code
*You must code after a concept I have

I simply don'T have the time to finish in time.
Course work, 2 exams every week, my parents don't allow me to use my computer as long as I want ...

Please reply!

And btw: <{GNULINUX}> will never be open source, to avoid incompatible versions but will forever be free available.

Ok, are you guys saying DOS as in actually being able to use old DOS progs.
You give me DOS and I will be dancing. DOS in my pocket is better than Windows on my desktop any day. I'm praying here. I know people that would by a class pad for DOS alone if they could get it.
