If you have some programming experience, learning syntax and constructs should be fairly quick.
It's learning libraries and APIs, and keeping up with all kinds of technology that's the time consuming part of it.
(another great reason for taking advantage of the .net platform, since you don't have to worry yourself in what language a library or an api is written; they will all be unified in the same object/component model, and can be accessed from whichever langage you prefer)
