In relation for my interest in Math Education I just ordered a Casio Prizm fx-CG10 to practice calculations and graphs, not so hard to demonstrate to students in the future.

My favorite Distro is PCLinuxOS, in first place the LXDE variant, and in second place the Openbox variant.Hello taigarden! What's your favorite distro? By math education, do you mean teaching math? If so, what subpart? (eg. algebra, geometry)
I also like Puppy Linux, which actually have helped me in several recoveries.
I am also acquainted with Ubuntu, which was my starting point with Linux.
Regarding Math Education I mean learning how to tech math. I am currently enrolled in the National Open University (UNA) in my country (Venezuela), as a regular student although with minimum study load, because of my job. I am a EE (Power) working in an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction private company for the Energy Sector, graduated many, many years ago..........
I privately call my math studies as a "program for organized readings" since it focus what I read (and study) for leisure. And "eventually" I will graduate........ In this moment I am taking a course in Didactic of Stochastic (=Probabilities+Statistics)

I'm an 18 years old student from the Netherlands. Studying Aerospace Engineering right now.
Have been member already for a few years but it was just creating an account, just to see what ucf looked like. Now Casio scene is down and my ip banned. I remembered again there was UCF. I program in casio basic and beginning to do some SDK.

sorry guys for not introducing myself right off I am a first year student at a community college trying to re-educate myself after a layoff.I bought this casio fx-9860g to prove my math instructor wrong.she swears by that high price ti-84 and says it will do all the graphing equations in my course.I am 100% sure my casio will do the same I just can't figure out how.
Welcome to UCF, fixerj!
You are definately correct about the 9860 being able to do all the ti84 can do and more.
Feel free to post any questions about your calc!

Hello guys, I'm a third year electronics engineering student who is currently taking a numerical analysis course at school. I just got my new fx-5800P a few months ago on ebay to replace my old fx-4500PA and it is PURELY AWESOME!!! Saving lots of time for me during the exams and assignments, I love it. A month later after I was amazed by the powerful 5800P, I ordered another two calculators on ebay which are fx-50F Plus and fx-9860GII SD And now, I'm just getting a fresh start on calculator-programming stuff which I'm not familier with (I did some assembly language and machine language at school but unfortunately not BASIC ). Hope I can find some useful info around the site to get me start on my new calculators (especially 5800p and 9860GII~)

Welcome to UCF! You shouldn't have too much trouble with BASIC, as its a pretty simple language. There are other options for programming, lua, C, and asm.

Why does it seem like most calc users from the middle east have classpads? Are they cheaper over there than they are here (in the USA)?

Just my opinion: There isn't any education program or sth that requires specific calculators, and there are usually no restrictions on the calc you use, so most university students buy the best calculator they can get.Why does it seem like most calc users from the middle east have classpads? Are they cheaper over there than they are here (in the USA)?

Ah, ok. Because where I live, PRIZM's are not sold, and neither are HP-calcs.Of course. hp and Sharp scientific models are also available. But maybe CASIO is more historical and well-known than others. Other brands are not infrequent either.

I do not know about PRIZMs (I haven't been to places where I would search for it recently), but I didn't see a single HP calculator in any shop here. The only HP calcs I saw are a dead 48G somewhere behind me and the 50G to my left, which I got off Ebay (shipped from the USA, that was actually cheaper than buying it from someone closer to me ).Ah, ok. Because where I live, PRIZM's are not sold, and neither are HP-calcs.
