some tips:

first, make sure it dosent have to run fast. second, be prepared to redo things over and over. third, you must decide if you want the game to be in text or graph mode (text for speed, graph for... graphics). fourth, don't over do it, this is your first program so don't make it to fancy, you'll just end up frustrating yourself.

I once heard a quote about how how after testing your game you should never want to look at it again, that should give you an idea of how much time people put into testing their games... (heck, I've been testing my RPG for 5 years :( ).

sometimes you will get a bug you just cant fix ( :profanity: ), the debugger will put the cursor somewhere that obviously has no problem (as if to taunt you) and you will find yourself wanting to throw your calc aginst the wall... instead put your code here and we will look it over, and hopefully be able to find the problem. :hammer:

i have started it, but have not gotten far and i have concluded that it would take forever to make this game, due to my stupidity and the complexity of the game. i was thinking about making tachyon: the fringe for the cfx but it would be even more complex :hammer: , so i am looking for looking for more ideas for a game. any suggestions?

puzzle games are a great (and easy) way to polish your programming skills, check my game Runner (bottom of page) for ideas... this game has absolutly no replay value, but it would be pretty good if it had say 99 levels. also, I havent tested it on the CFX so it might be a little slow.

yeah, and I do think it could be made (fairly easily) on the CFX, the colors would make a nice touch. the Ai is very simple so that should be no problem.

I's a good that you have continued with your old project, Bob.
It shows that you don't give up. it sounds great. can't wait till you finish.

Luckily i didn't finish it for you when you suggested it to me, or you wouldn't have a game to submitt.

Good luck!

CrimsonCasio: How come Bob can submit a game he has already been working on previously?

it might be a while before i finish, i have not completly abandoned the idea, but i will be working on the trogdor game and then after i finish that i might start working on it, i keep getting ideas how it would work, but it would still take a good while after i start it to finish it (unless somebody helped me)

I know, ti's are "kinda" more expensive than cfxs, so i like cfxs better
and they're easier to deal with since i've been using casio for a long time
(i used to use my dad's old fx120)

I know that this is a casio forum but I simply want to tell.

From what I heared TI's are a LOT better in comparrision to the CFX (the can handle ASM/C code!)

yes, but how many of those kids in math class know how to use the ti's that are in the classroom? i can use them better than the teacher, the 83's and 86's might be able to do a few more things, but the casio's are so much easier to learn and use :)

I completely agree, teachers in my school didn't even teach us how to use the CFX.

we just learned by ourselves.

however, not many know how to program, only how to use it for math purposes. they don't use it to its full potential.
Many rely on me to supply them with games.

This is a bit off topic but where did you here of the UCF the first time, casiokingdom. I actually stumbled into it when I visited CasioCorner which I stumbled into when this really old casio site closed and redirected me to it :P. What a stroke of luck.

Casio BASIC on CFX is so magnificently simple, I can't understand any other form of programming. We aren't taught it in school, you just catch on. However, conventional programming is too slow and not powerful enough for the games we're making now.

Well, i can't really remember, but Crimson says that he was the one who directed me to the UCF. I think he is right, as i sent my Kingdom game to him when i first began programming, as his site was the only regularly updated site i could find. Did you guys know that Crimson, keeps all his emails sorted in a folder. He found my email i sent him in just a minute. Total nerd!!

About CFX BASIC programming, i agree that it's so simple. But i think it involves more creativity and ideas, as making a good game must be well thought out. Also you must be dedicated to programming. I picked it up quickly by programming in class at school. However my grades have been dropping ever since. I think i'll have to program less next year, as i don't want to stuff my TEE exams. Then i won't be able to go to uni and program more in lectures :(

BTW: Genesis this question was a bit off topic. What made you think of it?
