The chat widget is now enabled, please test it as much as you can :)
Only logged in members are able to see what's going on there but please, don't ever forget that none of your conversation should be considered as private when you're using this widget.

Don't hesitate to share any problem, suggestion or questions you may have in this thread.

Here is a maintained list of what is being worked upon :
- A way to minimize the widget (just like the file-sharing one) ===> done on 2012-04-09
- A way to resize it
- Better word-wrapping behaviour. ===> done on 2012-04-18
- Clickable URLs ===> done on 2012-04-17
- Notification of new posts
- Smiles (will be optional)

The widget was developed by me (global design, server-side PHP and client-side Javascript) and Forty-Two (global design and IRC bot in JAVA). More information about its architecture can be found here: http://www.casiocalc...?showtopic=6698

The chat widget can now be minimized, just click on its header. (if doesn't work, you might need to hard refresh the page once using CTRL+F5)

- Hyphenation has been implemented.
- New entries will no longer make the widget to scroll down if the mouse's pointer is overing the widget.

1. Can I have an example?

2. Will this prevent it from updating when the user mouses off?

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

(All of the above was one line but seems the forum software has a text-wrapper too and is automatically splitting my text ^ )

I'm not sure about that last one, it poses some privacy issues...

What privacy issues exactly? Maybe you could modify the posting page to provide a checkbox called "Notify IRC users of the new post" so people can turn this on (or off) when they want.

This is not this I'm concerned with, it's with the member log in/out announces

Yes, and you can see who is logged in at the bottom. It's also quite handy when someone who's your friend logs on; you can say hello.

hmmm, it sounds intrusive to me though :/ I'm also afraid it might pollute the chat quickly, hiding recent conversations.

There is a profile option named something like 'invisible' where your name is not displayed when you enable it... I could use that.

It's easy to notice when someone enters the site but not when that person leaves, so it's better to only display when someone arrives...

Anyway I'll try and see how it goes.

Well, the invisible option could disable it for users who don't want it, but otherwise, implement both joins and parts. That way people can disable it if they want.

I was thinking of more like when someone logs in, not when they load a page in the site after a period of inactivity. Also: "<%UcfBot> *2072 2072 just arrived" two nicks

Something to reduce the pollution by "people are browsing" and "people have joined the channel" messages:
Each time someone joins or browses the forum, remove all the previous enter, join, and browse messages for that user from the history. Such that only the latest activity of the user is displayed. I know this won't delete such messages from IRC clients' history, but this will keep the shoutbox at the top clean.
Another thing that can be implemented at the same time with the above is to remove all status messages of a user after this 10 hour (or 16 hour?) of his inactivity from the shoutbox.

The first thing that I thought could be implemented is a (e.g) "/remove" function for moderators of this forum that removes certain lines from the shoutbox. For example "/remove MicroPro 09:01:18" removes the line posted by MicroPro at 09:01:18 in the shoutbox. I recently removed a spammer called joc[...]gd (they're still here :) I missed them) We don't want them to spam the shoutbox too.

Do you think they were difficult?

I think this is adequate. The one other thing would be to change the message to something less stalky. Maybe "Khoraski has entered the room," not "Khoraski is browsing the forum."

I've implemented the following changes:

- Changed 'is browsing the forum' to 'entered the room'
- 'Entered the room' messages older than 30 minutes are no longer displayed
- Leave/Join spam by the same user is removed when no real message is found in-between.

I've just noticed a grammatical issue with the bot's messages:

"XXX has joined/left the channel" should be "XXX joined/left the channel" since XXX joined/left the channel at a precise known point in time (which is written on the left of the message).

Everyone, is it just me or you again decreased the number of recent lines to 10?

Edit: When I logged-in there were almost ten lines. As me and flyingfisch posted, the number became bigger.

"XXX has joined/left the channel" should be "XXX joined/left the channel" since XXX joined/left the channel at a precise known point in time (which is written on the left of the message).

I never learned what English verb tense was exactly for what situation... anyways...

that's not simple, they're in the data sent from the server. The messages disappear because the history is limited to a certain size. The only way would be to clean the history on the server... I might do it but it requires a few hours of work.

Things went a bit screwy in my life in the week after that, and I've yet to find time to get that all done; if you could put the prefixes here, I should be able to have them implemented soon.
