Well, i don't like CasioCorner for now.
The structure is quite too complicated to me, plus i dont like phpnuke.

Why is the structure too complicated and why don't you like phpnuke.
I think it's a very handy script. Moderating is very easy and the integration between forum and the rest of CasioCorner will be a good solution.
Tell me what I have to do with CasioCorner to improve the site, and I will see what I can do.
P.S. What is the reason of your preference for graph100? It's a French site, and contains only one forum...

well its looking like graph100 wont work... so that wont be an option.

solution to both sides of the problem would be to 1) clean up the forum, but not delete everything; and 2) rework casio corner to simon's specifications... both parts would be a huge hassle, but could be done with the entire admin team.

I definately don't like the idea of deleting the forums database
and the hosts framboy suggested are all bad since the have a bandwidth limit what I think this
forum will reach. So you couldn't reach the forum for let's say the last
week.

If someone would try a german host look at this:

Levanzo Webhosting

It has:

500 MB webspace
5 .de domains
unlimited traffic
own virtual mailserver
own error sites
500 subdomains
5 FTP accesses
PHP4
Huge cgi-scrip database
own cgi-bin directory
MySQL database
statistics
wap support
no ads

15? / MONTH

But as I said i can't afford this.
Just an idea

@simon:

is the db really this large?
I think this is a problem. But will look for other opotunities.

I'm now updating CasioCorner to version 6.7 of phpNuke (so there could be errors and downtime now...).
After this had succesfully taken place, I will create a phpBB-board, just for testing.
I will also check if it is possible to preserve the post-count.

@ Netforce:
What i don't like about CasioCorner now?
The whole site looks more like a forum than a casio site.
I dont like the way of chosing with a combo box.

I know, this sounds hard, but i think the old site was better.

Of course your site is nice, good job, but i think normal hyperlinks like yuri's/wouter's site had would be much better....

well this is of course subjective netforce!
I am sure there are people who love the new casiocorner, it's just... since i knew the old casiocorner for ages. :hammer:
When i visit your site i am always wondering that there is a new site.

Bye.

OK, thanks for your comment.
I'm now updating to 6.7, after that I will see what I can do for you to fit it with your wished.
When te new site came online, I had started a poll and 90% of the people thought the new site was better...

Leme explain something to you.

There is no such thing as an unlimited hardrive, you can't walk into Best Buy and say "Hey, whats your price on unlimited harddrives" They don't exsists. When you see Unlimited Webspace it really meens "Unlimited, until we think you are ussing too much". There is also no such thing as an unlimited data transfere, when you see that it meens "Its unlimited...well that is until you max out or pipe...or we think you are ussing too much". Read the TOS's for these and you will see what they really meen.

Those hosts that have a "one-time" set-up fee are a joke and a scam, they are fly-by-night hosts and you will be out your $20 and webhosting within a few months...trust me I have seen it.

If it makes you say "Wow, that is nearly too good to be true" then it isn't true.

CasioCorner is succesfully updated to version 6.7 of phpNuke. No data is lost, only some functionality which I had added manually must be implemented in the new version. It's a mess now, but I will improve it as quick as possible.
I've installed the phpBB on the site. Click here to see. It's just for testing if CasioCorner could merge with the UCF.

You can't use the IPB database on a phpBB without data loose if you can use it at all.

No, that's right.
In a previous post I had given two options: start from the scratch with a new phpBB forum on CasioCorner or as the same forum as now beside another forum. I prefer the first one. There's a lot of mess on the forum now (99% of the post will never be read again) and this gives us the possibility to make a new structure, faq-section and so on. Beside that, an integration with CasioCorner will be good for both sites and gives a lot of features en possibilities.
Very important messages could be manually transfered to the new forum and also the post-counts could be set up on the new forum.

Also found this host: http://www.solidinte....com/index.html they are ran by a very reputable company (www.myacen.com), although you only get support via a help forum, no 24x7x365 Live Chat/Phone support like you would with some of the others I mentioned. But, if you are just running a forum and you got people that know the ins and outs it should be okay.

1. Sorry i haven't been on the ucf for a while i was away on holidays and then i was "busy" with school and assignments and stuff
2. bad news... I can provide hosting. i have an account with http://lifetimewebhosting.com/ (I have the plus package) and i can give about 250-500mb to the ucf, if you choose me.
3. If i were to take control, there would only be minimal changes to the ucf (it would not be combined with another site or anything) and i would make sure i got other things going (file sharing etc) soon after.
4. as for member sites, i could do them BUT I would not be able to offer subdomains.

Silly dudes!!!!!!!!

Stop suggesting to delete the database! There is the knowledge of almost one year UCF!
If you want to delete it then we wouldn't have needed to beg simnon to keep the forum open longer!

The database is the heart of the forum. deleting it means killing the forum!
I can understand simon. he wants to help you and would transfer the database and you
YOU SUGGEST TO DELETE IT! YOU MUST BE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS!

I like the offer of rj! I would suggest to take him for now .. but lets wait for the poll.

He promises everything that matters. Minimal changes, using the current database.
He has the space and is a valuable member of our community.

offering the subdomains: They could also run over my URL. I would give every member of the UCF up to 5 subdomains to a site that contains casio content (and maybe other things but NO commercial sites or ad sites!)

I've made a backup of the UCF to see how it was difficult to transfer the database, well now there is a full copy of the ucf at http://ucn.2072productions.com/ so what ever happen we have a backup :)

In fact to transfer the database you need to have a command line access to your server, else you can uploads piece by piece using phpmyadmin but it takes ages...

Now we have the chance to make a new start...
What's the use of a stand-alone-forum? Only a discussion-place...
Integration with CasioCorner will give the Casio community much more possibilities.
- Link between the Mainpage-news and the forum (for discussion)
- User-website-rating via the Web-Links-section
- B?ta-section (Downloads) with discussion on the forum and poll-rating
- Important documentation submitted in the forum could be put in the Documentation-section
- Same user- and admin-database
- Authors of downloads could be linked to the profile
...and so on...

BTW, what posts do you want to preserve? With so many posts you need a huge database (500 mb) for a lot of post which will never been read again.

high. If we wanted a completely new forum we could also meger with graph100 and make it to one place but
I think most do no.

The forum database is only 8 Mbytes large... that's not so big!

It could stay on my server but I don't have 120$ a year for the domain name nor time to develop a front page etc... so it would be a standalone forum...

i could host the forum. i have unlimited database-space! transferring won't be a problem. but with the frontpage i would have a problem. propably i will take offer of levanzo webhosting (http://www.levanzo.d...tion=&domain=?=) and there i could take the frontpage and the domain.

so i could host the whole site. i will talk to a friend today and if he says yes, then i will take the package and i will host it!

it is my offer and guys: it is a posibility.

Is that in USD? If so, then where are you getting your domains? The most I have ever heard of was $35/yr and I get mine for $10/yr at registerfly.com. Godaddy.com also sells 'em for $9/yr.

No! The forum is the main thing and it should be named as it is that is *Universal Casio Forum*, we are the community not a sub menu in someone's web site. Some time ago ther was a upload/download sub section in the UCN and this is the correct hierarchy.
More #1: Simprobe (as I wouldn't) probably would not give his work to be a "CasioCorner's forum".
More #2: I don't like that the new experimental forum is just a frame in the CasioCorner site. Other web site owners wouldn't like to link to such a forum.
Too big integration with a particular web site will be bad for the forum.
This is mine private opinion.

Roeoender is right... If you integrate it wirh CasioCorner it looks like a forum of some site... I dont want that...
My opinion, really this is nothing against casiocorner, i would love to see it together with the ucn, but i dont want it in a frame, that looks like a casiocorner forum...

Thanks for your work 2072. :)

Bye Bytefish.

It would be great if it stayed on a site for its own or with its own frontpage.
I prefere the folowing candidates for now:

2072
rstweb
rj

In this order. If anyone has problems I can also host it temporary (but with banners) and if you can't afford the
domain I could buy it and redirect it to your server. For me it costs ~12 Euro / y

I think we should start a poll on sth. like friday so all the ones that offer sth. should send their offers to simon,
so he can explain everything in the poll. They should include what will change, what they want to keep, what
they do with the sub webspace and their own new rules, the webspace they have, the bandwith limit, the scripts
(CGI, MySQL, PHP ...), the subdomains and so on. If simon doesn't wan to do it maybe Crimson can collect these
infos since he is independant and quite good.

Simon can post them in a closed poll then and everyone should read BEFORE he votes so he makes the best
decission. If everything goes on fine the host change can be done in 2 or 3 weeks.

If rstweb could get the hosting it would be great since this provides all we need.
